Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Are these not against the rules?

Remember, these rules are standard guidelines, and while not everything is covered, you should use common sense and think before you post.

I'm pretty sure this is under "common sense", at least flaming.

I always figured it was under th

Kong forums is a great place to find petty insults and flame wars.

But, this topic is enough.

Re: Flaming and Petty Insults

A few posts in here: http://forums.everybodyedits.com/viewtopic.php?id=29039 and plenty in here (even one that I reported): http://forums.everybodyedits.com/viewtopic.php?id=28959 and the EE Dictionary thread, though that one was at least eventually locked.

Perhaps I am getting stuffy in my "old" age, but if anything will drive me from these forums, it would be things like this. Let me know if you think I'm being overly sensitive, but I see no reason for stooping to the level of flaming another user.

Re: Flaming and Petty Insults

I'm not really seeing anything that's especially terrible except for someone being called a nub.

let's see:

Warnable, I admit, but we'll get to that.

http://forums.everybodyedits.com/viewto … 29#p521229
incomprehensible; getting off-topic... probably?

http://forums.everybodyedits.com/viewto … 39#p521239
even more off-topic -- I wouldn't warn for it yet since I haven't said anything.

iPwner wrote:

TL;DR

spam; he was warned (and banned for two weeks) for this; i'm kind of hesitant to give out two different warnings for two different posts in the same thread on the same day because that might be considered too harsh since they couldn't see the first one in the first place, and then they might want to argue it when they get unbanned.

the alternate insults one wasn't really anything warnable for except 'you're the most irritating person...' since the rest were more of suggestions for better insulting?

so then I was off the forums for a few hours because reasons, which is when anything past this post was posted, and that's when it really went downhill.

so basically, it depends what you define as petty insults and flaming -- calling someone irritating isn't, in my opinion, something someone should be warned for. I'm not seeing anything that is particularly terrible, and I can see how others' views may differ.

Re: Flaming and Petty Insults

I went through and reported the posts I would consider flaming or borderline flaming with this tag "*Not a report*: Example of what I would consider flaming."

And I'm not asking for warnings, I'm asking for redirections. You redirect before giving warnings for posting off topic, why not redirect for flaming as well?

Edit: And it isn't just the threads today, it's more of just a generic culture thing. Maybe I just haven't seen it, but I haven't seen a mod comment on the quality of posts or "nice"ness except on the Jawapa leaving thread lock message.

Edit2:

...and that is why I don't understand the people who say that we don't need more than one mod. ;-;

If you think you need more mods to balance out either the work or responsibility, then get another mod. I personally don't think its necessary to have another mod simply because I trust you and D55 will be receptive, but if you are feeling stress from modding these forums, then get another mod, of course.

Unless the members of the forums can grow up and take it as criticism and work on improving.

Flaming/cyberbullying is one of the heavier warnings we give out, which makes us hesitate to use it. Maybe a lighter, "Unnecessary rudeness" or "flamebaiting" warning could be created to fill in the gap.

I still prefer the informal warning, like "Hey dude, you're not being very nice, if you stay with this attitude you will get banned.", and then in the second time strike down the ban-hammer.

Re: Flaming and Petty Insults

Well there's a verbal warning and then like, an official warning.

I guess what I'd like to see more of is Creature's style of post.

I honestly think bans and removal from the forums should be a last resort, after clear repeated defiance, but they can't be seen as defiant if they aren't given a redirection post.

I mean, if this were real life and these were my peers, I would honestly interject and say "That's not nice" on several of these topics, but since these are forums, doing so would be seen as minimodding, and I already feel like I overstep my bounds enough there. =P

Re: Flaming and Petty Insults

But idk, just because it happens to be breaking the rules, does that make it minimodding to tell them to stop? What if you would have said that if it was breaking a rule or not?

Nope. Bans are automatically handled once you earn more than 2 points, with ban lengths increasing in line with the amount of points past that. Most warnings are worth 1 point, so your first warning ends up being something like a verbal warning. Mostly endsbup serving as a reminder to newbies to read the rules. Warnings expire after annamount of time dependant on the type of warning, after which that warming's points no longer count towards your total.

But if spam or off topic posts were not considered breaking the rules I would comment on them too. I like my forum communities clean, and if they weren't against the rules I would certainly either leave the community or advocate for them to be a part of the rules.

Re: Flaming and Petty Insults

On many forums verbal warnings for things like this are given via PM to just say "Hey, this is a verbal warning, what you're doing is against our community guidelines, (rather than rules as such) if you continue you'll get warning points/a heavier warning/maybe even a ban."
I guess it's a bit blurry what you could be reported/warned for but if someone's genuinely offended/looks like it's heading that way then verbal warnings are suitable I suppose. Idk tho
