Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Removing the total woot count

This is not Facebook. It's a sandbox tool for goodness sake; liking should not be an apparent reason to introduce a liking system.

What I have in mind is to remove the total woot count (the amount of total accumulated woots), and to only leave woots when players are in the room. For example, if your world has received 100 woots today, and players are still AFK in the world or something, the woots remain. But when all players leave, the woots reset to 0.

The reason for this is that the total woot count:

1. Carries a bug sometimes does not count the woots received a day

2. The total woot count should not and does not represent the "like meter" of the world (e.g. minigame worlds or "newb" worlds that receive excessive amounts of woots)

3. The total woot count is as useless as the leveling system

4. The total woot count is sometimes used as a meter to pre-judge worlds before they are even played thoroughly, and

5. Is, as stated above, only perceived for practical uses (though it is sometimes literally perceived rather than practically).

These issues cannot be resolved unless the total woot count is eradicated.

The pros of a daily woot count ONLY are:

• The daily woots represent the amount of likes given in recent times, not in times years ago

• The daily woots do not represent "previous" versions of worlds, which can lead to confusion (e.g. a blank world has received 1,000,000 total woots, which shows no relevance to the total woot count)

The cons are:

• Can also lead to pre-judgment

• Can also cause "newb" worlds to receive high daily woots

Despite the "daily woot count" system's cons, the total woot count creates much more problems within the society than there should be. The total woot count also raises competition, which leads players to bomb their worlds to accumulate woot count.

Another possibility is to remove ALL woot counts in EE existence, and only leave the woot button there so players can simply "woot" a world, without counting the woot in a woot count.

Edit: the purpose of this suggestion is to leave the woot count received a day (which currently exists), and to delete the total woot count.

But what if we want to see "Best levels of all time", rather than "Hot right now"?

What if the "Best level of all time" was a blank world? A poorly-crafted noob-friendly world? A boss that no longer has an operator?

Re: Removing the total woot count

Okay, then you can skip past that level because it doesn't appeal to you. But what if it wasn't?

Woots should not define a world by a like meter. Some of the best worlds have a low woot count.

Re: Removing the total woot count

Any rating system will be flawed. Especially since the game's community is mostly made of younger children.

The current woot system was simple.  You either like a world, or not.  Yes, woots are thrown around like crazy, but for the most part they help find good worlds.

Re: Removing the total woot count

Just make woots infinite, so woot count doesn't make sense as players may be spam wooting all worlds.

This is a false statement.

Woots should not even be a staple measure to like a world.

Re: Removing the total woot count

In my opinion, EE could do with a rating system to replace the woots. Each user can rate the level between 1 to 5 stars (5 = Amazing, 1= Poor). The game would then display the mean rating to all the players.

But then, people could spam 1 stars :/

Perhaps there could be a way around.

Re: Removing the total woot count

People can spam anything, let's be honest. Maybe have something similar to what newgrounds have. Some people's ratings are worth more towards the mean rating, and some (spammers) are worth less.

Re: Removing the total woot count

I agree with this idea actually.
-
@skullz, how can woots give an accurate representation of the best level on EE?
First of all, the majority of the maps that I enjoy were made way before woots were a thing, so they probably have very little.
second, young kids don't really care about the effort put into a map. They will basically woot anything that they can beat, so mainly 200 easy minigames and other things like that.
third... It's all opinion based. There is no true "best map" simply because what I think is the best map, could be your most hated map.
-
Also someone mentioned a 1-5 rating system, and while I do also like that idea, I don't think it will work. Kids will rate any map they can't win as 1 star, claiming that the map is bad, when in fact it's them that's bad.

Re: Removing the total woot count

I didn't say that woots are good, and I agree with the points you've made. But I don't think this suggestion is the proper solution to the problem.

Re: Removing the total woot count

In addition to what was already stated, another problem is that more played worlds will naturally receive more woots. "Noob" players will only care about the total woot count, not the ratio of plays to woots. Furthermore, there many ways to obtain woots other than a level being good: woot for code, begging, etc. The woot system is inaccurate as well as any rating system that could be implemented and gives young kids the wrong idea. Same goes for any rating system ever.

Re: Removing the total woot count

Then it's settled. EE isn't suited for a rating system.

Re: Removing the total woot count

There will always be that one (or many) guy(s) who spam woots everything ( //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue ) and I don't think there is a way around it. A rating system would be nice but it wouldn't be as useful as it would be intended to be.

5 stars rating system, you can only rate if you got trophy, ip limit, make that people with experience (3/4 years playing?) rating matters more.

there ya got yo rating system

Too limiting, imo.
