Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

[Idea] Opinions on a convoluted strategy game

How does EE feel about games like Risk? Or Civ V? Personally, I am obsessed with them, and would like to create some type of game similar to it in EE.

It would be new and unique, of course, but I am concerned that it wouldn't have much of an audience. Most people need flashy effects or tests of reflexes to be entertained ― and understandably so. EE is a flash game tailored to reflex challenges.

Instead, what I have in mind takes advantage of EE's sense of multiplayer editing. It involves emulating an open world (i.e. giving them edit and having a bot breathe down their neck) in order to let players build their own fortifications. Certain blocks have certain functions, and of course they're not free. A few functions would be: wall block, gate block, farm block, archer block, etc. Certain blocks could be able to move, like people, while others are immediately triggered and then delete themselves (like a potion).

It could be the type of game where you slowly upgrade or the type where you start with almost everything and need to refine it. It could be an aerial map or a platform one. It could be a game that lasts indefinitely or just a few minutes.

As mentioned in the title, it's just an idea. I would like to know how many people are interested in it before I start developing it further.

It would have to be done right, but I'd love to see something like this. I know I'd play it. I think the trick would be keeping it simple, though, as it would be far to easy to over complicate.

Yes and I have a niche for over-complicating things. Even at its bare minimum, one would need to read some instructions before beginning. That would lose 50% of people right there. I suppose it is possible to only tell them the basics and let them research it on the forums.

Then again, the only thing that would make it complicated is unintuitive controls. For example, how does one attack? Do they just place a block and it goes wherever it wants, or do they somehow control it using more blocks, as in placing a flag where they want certain ones to go? Are these things programmable? That right there opens up a new world of possibilities at the price of complexity.

The basic gameplay needs to be easy enough to grasp with just a few instructions, and within the first minute or so, I think. For more extensive documentation, such as what different blocks do, what they cost, and etc., you can use the forums or a webpage for that.
