Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Need recommendations on computers

Alright, I'm looking into buying a desktop. Let's be practical, nothing over $700. I'm not that rich.

I'd mainly use it for gaming, that's pretty much it. Web-browsing and gaming.

Recommendations?

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Yeah, but then you need to include a monitor which is approx. $200, then the total comes out to be about 1K, which I don't have.

16 GB of RAM is likely quite excessive anyway.

Re: Need recommendations on computers

Okay, someone tell me how to convince my parents that desktops are better for gaming than laptops.

And Shyguy, that's the sexiest piece of technology I've ever seen in my life, lol.

Games are intensive, laptops are compact with minimal fans, overheating is bad.
Laptops have minimal graphics power as they're not designed for games.
Lots of reasons.

You're supposed to say they're better for work.

Figure 1:

"Why are you buying such an expensive desktop, son?"

"so mai gamezzz run sooper dooper fastest!!!!!"

"You were a mistake."

Figure 2:

"Why are you buying such an expensive desktop, son?"

"Why, mother and father, to do excessive research with."

"What a fine young man we've raised. Have a cookie."

Just build your own computer? I'm sure there are plenty of guides on the internet.

Might be difficult to convince parents to let you buy a whole bunch of components, especially if you've never put one together before.   Although, I'm sure this is actually the correct answer.

Re: Need recommendations on computers

The fact you even think it's possible makes me laugh.

It would take a month, if not more to make.

Assuming you've never done it before, you shouldn't assume it's so hard.   So long as you're careful and actually buy parts that fit together, I don't think the actual construct is of any great difficulty.

Re: Need recommendations on computers

my dads friend built his own computer that runs super fast and the case looks really old. (over $1000 i think) he also made a good one with a case that looks really new. (if he gets robbed, they will probably take the worse computer) you should consider it but for around $800. it might cost more but it will be worth the extra hundred if its good

I hope you're joking.

Are you going to be purchasing your OS and/or the Microsoft Ofice suite? That'll knock you ~$200. With that being said, the rig I just built (first time, took me ~3 hours) only cost me $400 monitor included (although I didn't need to purchase any software). Let me give you the stats and you can go from there. Building your own isn't that hard. I mean, you've gotta be precise, but watching a few videos really did it for me. Just make sure you have the right RAM, that your mobo is compatible with your CPU (Get a bundle to make absolutely sure and get it cheaper), and make sure you have all of the necessary components

Here's mine: Oh wow a link

Physically as in, I have absolutely no idea what 90% of a computer is made of, and I don't have the patience or the money to waste in case I mess up royally.

What's your opinion on this one?

Tako,
Just build it. Go by mine. It's fully functional. I'll even make you a czechlist. Seriously, just watch some guides by newegg and make sure to listen when they say what not to do. You'll be fine.

Anti-static wristband
SATA cables (IDK, 2 or 3)
HDD, 400+GB preferably
Monitor
Keyboard and mouse, assuming you don't have one
GPU, unless you want crap onboard graphics
Motherboard, unless you want an unoperational computer
CPU
RAM
Case: Preferably badass looking
Power supply, unless it comes with the case. Always read reviews.
Optical drive.

If you're going to buy a prebuilt one, just don't go with dell. Get a nice HP or something.
