Official Everybody Edits Forums

Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

BOTS subforum? What do you think?

So here's our pickle: bots are an increasingly large portion of EE. We're currently having to put bots and miscellaneous programs in General Discussion, which isn't right.

General Discussion is for discussion. Not bots.

So, to keep the forums organized, changes should be made to the Everybody Edits category.

They don't fit in any of the current subforums (except maybe Creative, but that's for off-topic things), so we need to either rename some subforums or create a new one.

What do you think?

Some ideas that are being taken into consideration by the staff:

1) Just creating a new subforum for programs. End of story.
Pros: Simple, easy to understand.
Cons: Where are you supposed to put works-in-progress? For rooms, we have an entire subforum dedicated to works-in-progress. Shouldn't programs be consistent with rooms?

2) Merge Level Creation and Rooms. Create a subforum for programs.
Pros: Evens things out. Makes it consistent with Rooms.
Cons: Requires users to tag their topics with [WIP] if they are a WIP (to keep things organized), increases traffic.

3) Have two subforums for programs (WIP and DONE) and two subforums for rooms (WIP and DONE)
Pros: Also consistent, and doesn't require tags.
Cons: WIP Programs probably wouldn't get used at all.
Do you have a better arrangement in mind? If not, which of the proposed ideas sounds best?

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

I say just put a massive sticky topic for Bots in General Discussion.
The OP would be split up into sections, or have reserved slots underneath it or something.

But for that the topic creator has to be online enough to update the original post for all the released bots and that. I'm online enough, maybe I could?*

*Scratch that, the Insane Instrumentals topic died from my laziness.

Tbh I don't see why how something not done, I think WIP and done should be in the same subforum, and just have WIP be a required tag for WIPs, but for completed things, the lack of a WIP tag would mean it is not a WIP, so no need for a DONE tag.

That's not an improvement by any means. That would just make things 100% worse.

Good point. I revised the second idea to exclude the [DONE] tag.

Re: BOTS subforum? What do you think?

I say create one subforum, for all programs, and sticky a topic that contains a list of all the completed bots/programs for ee.

Thank you for that complete and in-depth analysis.

How so?

A list is nice, but completely irrelevant to the issue at hand.

The issue is that General Discussion is overburdened with bots and other programs. A list would not relieve this burden. The topics are still there and in the way.

Replacing topics with a single, central topic is absurd because it would eliminate any organization that bot creators have right now. Topics provide structure. We need topics. We need a place to put the topics.

Imagine trying to squeeze a couple dozen Room threads into one, or trying to squeeze a couple dozen forum games into one. It would be unorganized and chaotic.

I don't know if that's what you had in mind, but it's the only actual solution you hinted at.

Re: BOTS subforum? What do you think?

My idea: put a "Creative" section in the EE category. This should merge graphics suggestions, maybe game suggestions, and of course would be the place to post bots.

Re: BOTS subforum? What do you think?

I think that Option 1 is best; if you're worried that the subforum "Program Creation" (or whatever it would be called) would be dead space, think about "Everybody Edits Announcements", where the last post was 23rd February 2012.

Also, if you're considering new subforums, I would suggest a "Contests" subforum, to clean up General Discussion, and would allow for community created contesets, and official contests (if there ever will be again) to be in one place.

Re: BOTS subforum? What do you think?

Eh, I'd go with number three. Merging Rooms and Level Creation isn't the smartest idea, and even if WIP isn't used as much, we can always move topics to the correction section (such as what is being done in Rooms and Level Creation).

I'd put the subforum under LC but over Q&A.

Re: BOTS subforum? What do you think?

I'd go with the first one, because programs are always going through updates and fixes, even if they're already "complete", and WIPs are kinda similar, just that they won't have a link or as much information, however complete programs might not have a link anyway, so the two are quite similar in some sense.

Re: BOTS subforum? What do you think?

I honestly have to go with number 1.
Is a bot ever "complete"?
There is always the threat of updates to ruin the functionality of such bot, not to mention, what if someone releases the bot and finds that: Hey! I want to add this! They can add it, but by definition wouldn't that once again make it WIP?

If you are to use categories, perhaps go with public and unreleased (a thread following updates up until release).

I think you should do option 1.

Actually your idea is very similar to the one I originally proposed. My original idea was to rename Rooms to Creations and have all types of media there.

That idea wouldn't work, though, because it would be increasingly unorganized as other forms of media gained popularity.

Likewise, having a "general creations" subforum would be a jumbled mess of bots and distributed software and graphics etc.

So, perhaps we could add two subforums, one for software and one for other creations. As certain medias gain popularity we can branch off and create a new subforum for them.

Re: BOTS subforum? What do you think?

What's the difference between other creations, and the creative section we have now?   Just call it 'Software Creations' or something.   There could be an ingame one, and an offtopic one.

How long does it take until the new subforums appear?
Or do we need a poll for this?

Re: BOTS subforum? What do you think?

Level creation isn't just for WIP levels, it's also tips and discussions on creating levels. The WIP bot forum should be like that, too.

One is for off-topic things, the other is (hypothetically) for EE things.

Nah, we don't need a poll. We just wanted to see if the community has any better ideas.

Definitely expect a subforum for software, and there's a possibility of a different subforum for other creations

I definitely like the idea of a bot-centric subforum.
