Why do we need so much unnecessary things?

First off, why do we need the 'P' button if we can click straight on the user's name?
Second, why do we need very big clickzones for usernames?
Third, why do we need so much space between usernames?

Terrible idea, you do realize some people have small computers? With a small clickzone they could click on the wrong name easily. And what is wrong with a large clickzone? The names do not need to be closer, there is a scroll bar, it would only make it harder to read.
