Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Overview of EE Minis I Don't Like

List of EE Minis I Don't Like

This is an overview somewhat similar to Chimi's N & I Tips On What NOT To Do list, but my post only describes certain minis that I personally dislike.
Since it is unlikely that I am the only person who dislikes them, I'm posting this on the Level Creation board.

(This post is work in progress, it's a first draft.)

Overview (Air City + Arrow Mania + Hindrance)
YYgkL.png
This is an example of the type of section that I probably dislike the most. The reason is that it combines the three most problematic kind of mini concepts - Air City, Arrow Mania, Hindrance - into one extremely annoying time-waster. You can read more about these three mini concepts below.
(image mirror)

Air City
EGi6r.png
The entire route the player has to take is build in the sky, and if the player makes even the slightest mistake, (s)he has to restart the whole thing. The floor contains either arrows back to the starting position, dots that prevent the player from jumping up, or nothing in the sky is reachable from the bottom except for the elements near the start. It doesn't matter how far the player got in that section: a single mistake means it's game over; back to the beginning.

Arrow Mania
ZCI08.png
The creator decided to use arrows almost exclusively, and placed the arrows in such a way that players can follow some kind of path through these groups of arrows towards a certain location (like the section exit or a coin). Usually, this mini concept is about forcing the player to retain a certain velocity to successfully pass all obstacles. The latter means: even if the section is not an Air City, the player still has to restart everything after a single mistake.

Hindrance
qpXVo.png
This mini concept is all about the level creator trying to prevent the players from taking a laid out path. Frequently used in combination with the Air City and Arrow Mania sections. These are not elements that the player has to use or pass in a certain way. They serve no purpose other than to thwart the player from reaching certain goals. They will, for example, force the player to restart a section. Or, they might prevent the player from making any progress.

Below I will give some examples of sections that include one or more of the aforementioned mini concepts.

Those are really well thought minis. You may not like them because when you make one little mistake you have to start all over again. You can find this both annoying and hard, but there are loads of people that do like these kind of minigames.

It seems like you do like stairs, hooks and elevators since you didn't notice them ;3

Although I think this is a kind of useless thread. Just because if everyone would make a topic like this and list what minis they don't like the whole forum would be overloaded.

Those are some extremely original minis in my opinion, if your too nooby to beat them it's not our fault.
*edit* except the 1st couple of pics with the hindrance, arrow mania, and air thingy. That one does look annoying.

klmaster, that sort of ad hominem rhetoric isn't going to work with me, because I am a skilled player.
Remember this thread, where you told lbw that "theres a difference between CHEAP-HARD and HARD-HARD", and lbw later replied to the criticism (s)he got with "Yh, but did anyone here actually get all 20 coins?"?
No, I'm not "too nooby" to beat the mini concepts I posted about.
Building an Air City is cheap-hard, using Arrow Mania is cheap-hard and so is Hindrance.
It's what you're doing in your Masters Arena level; I don't like it.
Building some kind of arrow path over a floor covered with arrows or dots is cheap-hard, unoriginal, boring and annoying.
Yes, I'm also calling them unoriginal, because nowadays this concept is overused.

Totally true; lots of very good players seem to like these sort of minis.
I don't like them though, and I just felt like speaking my mind.
I'm already feeling better now that I've done so. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

Re: Overview of EE Minis I Don't Like

thank you for specifically pointing out our mini games and comparing them to your example, that is indeed very kind of you.

I also find it quite fascinating that you consider yourself as a skilled player and find that AYAC mini cheap-hard.

There's nothing wrong with those three concepts. Your overview mini is terrible because it requires extreme precision, not because of the themes it uses. The three example minis you posted are nothing like the overview and don't look unreasonably difficult or annoying at all.

This is just opinion, it's not our fault that you can't beat them get over it.

Just by saying this isn't gonna stop Anyone.

Especially Since you are barely known.

Yes, it is just an opinion.
Ah, another 'you're a noob' remark, apparently you didn't read klmaster's post and my reply to it.
Who says I can't beat the minis (mini concepts) I wrote about? (That's a rhetorical question.)

Wolf exile1 wrote:

Am I to understand that you recently did a survey asking a representative sample of EE players whether they've seen me around, as part of your scientific research for a paper that describes how you've tried to find answers to the hypothesis that I'm barely known? Oh, you have not? So, you actually mean "I barely know you." I've been playing EE since it was Multiplayer Platformworld at Newgrounds, and I'm willing to bet that I've played and finish far more rooms than you have. Yes, I don't have chat and I haven't posted more than a thousand messages on this forum, but that doesn't mean I'm "barely" known (which, by the way, is also subjective terminology). Even if what you claim is true: it's not an argument, it is ad hominem rhetoric. Finally, why would you even write something like that? Would you like it if someone wrote that you are barely known, even though you really like EE and are trying to partake in the discussions about it and its levels?

Folks, there really is no need for all the hostile replies, how is that going to help? :/
Anyways, I guess I'll just consider myself lucky to get so many replies in a thread I started. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

Re: Overview of EE Minis I Don't Like

I like the idea, and I'm not gonna go ad hominem, but I think this should have been more of a thread, not a topic.   It should be a "What minis don't YOU like?", not a "Minis I don't like".   Know what I mean?
