Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

GUIDE: Finding GOOD Level Ideas

Okay, off topic, this is my 500th post //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

I've noticed (who hasn't) a lot of stupid stair games and box minis. Newcomers to the game and forums will want to just copy this trend and make one of there levels of their own.

Don't.

Instead, take your time and make a level worth playing. But you can't do that without a good idea. But how do you find a good idea? Well, I'll tell you.
____________________________________________________________________________

STEP 1: Look for inspiration

This may be anything, really. One of the best ways is to be inspired is to skim through the MIDDLE of the lobby. In the top, it's all the nooby bombed levels. I urge you to stay away from all levels that have the title "stairs" and/or "minis" in them.

Another way to find inspiration is to sift through forum threads in "rooms" section. Most forumers are considerably better at level-making than non-forumers.

Yet another way to find an idea is to just go on with your everyday life. I can't tell you how many times I've had a brilliant idea for a level just watching TV.

What's most important is to not exactly copy another person's idea. Build on it.

STEP 2: Write down your idea

I can't tell you how many of those ideas I talked about earlier I lost to my other thoughts. It's even more important to remember your ideas than it is to have ideas. Anything's good, as long as you're sure to see it when you need to see it.

STEP 3: Go into EE and buy a world

It's hard to make a level without a world to put it in. I reccomend Massive worlds (200X200) or great worlds (400X200). But if your level doesn't require as much space, feel free to go with a smaller size.

NOTE: This step will take considerably longer than the others. If you want to get the world, then find an idea, feel free, but you might be left with extra room, or not enough room, if you do this.

STEP 3: Make your level

This tutorial is not for this, so I advise going to RavaTroll's Playable Landscape Tutorial to find out how to put your plan into action. Good luck, and in the mood of current events, "May the odds be ever in   your favor!"

Re: GUIDE: Finding GOOD Level Ideas

You might want to be more specific regarding the manner of getting inspiration. Are you looking for themes? Types of levels? Types of challenges?

May I also recommend

Creating and Developing your Platforming Map

and

Designing Challenges

Yea, those are also very good resources. However, RavaTroll's tutorial is geared specifically on the step (making the level), so I thought that would be the best resource, and I'd use it if I could only use on forum topic.
