Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Re: I Need Art Lessons.

Just do what I did, copy lots of different styles and incorporate them into Your own style.

Re: I Need Art Lessons.

I think you're intelligent enough to teach yourself, with a little direction:

1) Know your colors
2) Know what looks bad, and then fix it.

All pixel art is is trial and error. My first drawings look horrible. Then I change it a little bit. I keep making small changes that improve it until it looks perfect.

You need patience. Tons of it. Just keep re-doing and explore ALL your colors. Vision what looks good in your head, and attempt to copy it into EE.

If you don't have patience, don't even bother. Honestly.

Re: I Need Art Lessons.

^that

And also what he said about exploring all colors is really true. MAKE PALETTES!

But as for shading.. I really think it is a technique that takes a long time to become comfortable with.. And for that I would recommend a teacher

I disagree... I randomly troll sections of my level, fill in the holes, and it usually turns out great! 1xd1

Of course, palettes are a necessity.

Re: I Need Art Lessons.

^I do that too

What i MEANT was that there are so many techniques to shading, (different ways to do it) that it takes a long time to know them

Re: I Need Art Lessons.

Not all art has to be pro to be popular. I've seen 45 people at a fail art level.
Well, if you want to make some impressing art, first see where all the bold lines are. Draw those lines down roughly (for instance, if you were drawing a baseball, draw a nice circle) , then fill the art with the color you like.
Then see what colors are lighter and darker shades of the color and use them to make shadows.
Finally, just fill in the details.
Blam.

Re: I Need Art Lessons.

I spent about two hours on some noob level arguing with some noob about the "disappointing art" that he thought was godly. That was the end of my day.

Yes, I believe that's somewhat on topic.
