Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Many people are now going crazy because of the fact that they can no longer get all smileys that you can possibly have in EE, except for the superman smiley. Now, that there would be an exclusive smiley for the winners were probably the main reason why so many people wanted to participate in the easter contest. Most of these participants probably wanted to have something special that could show other players that they had won the competition. That these new smileys wouldn't be available to public were a known fact, but now comes complaints that could have been said in the very beginning of the competition. To have exclusive smileys as a sort of trophy is an excellent idea, but now those who did not win are suddenly dedicated to tell everyone how stupid the whole thing is. I did not expect to win, and so I didn't expect to receive the exclusive smileys. That didn't bug me the least, since I also knew it was a price to worthy winners and anyone who had worked hard and made their best to make a good level.
I am very upset about this, since it was clear that the new smileys would only be available to winners, and I do NOT think you should change this. If you do, which I would understand, want to make the smileys available in the shop, please only give out the bunny smiley, since I think all winners want to have something marking their success. The exclusive smiley is once again a brilliant idea, and I do hope you will keep it in coming competitions.

I pretty much agree with GameGus.
Wasn't the goal of this contest to bring out the best of all the EE players, working together to create som awesome rooms, be jolly in the spirit of Easter, and give some nice levels to play? And now's everyone being grumpy that they didn't win the smileys.
Of course, if we hadn't won, I'd probably be a little mopey myself, maybe complain to my friends that the judges are stupid and blind, or whatnot, but I would get over it and focus on the next competition.
You are angry because the prize wasn't given to everybody??
Let's take a real life example;
Some time ago, I participated in a short-story contest. You where supposed to write a short story, with a maximum of 3 A4, on a certain theme. I wrote my contribution, and I thought it turned out pretty nicely. I did not win. I don't know the reason, maybe it was badly written, or maybe it didn't fit the theme.
There, as at this contest, where 10 winners. The first prize was an iPhone 4, and 2-10 would win tickets to the cinema.
Of course I was a little sad, but I didn't go around craving that they should give out free tickets to everyone, or even that I was entitled an iPhone 4!
More examples? Think of the Olympic games. They have different medals every year. Only one person can win e.g. 100 m hurdles each year. If you want to collect all the 100 m hurdles medals, you're pretty screwed.
The chance of winning extra smilies was a huge motivator for me to do my best at the contest, if it only would've been energy, I might not've put as much spirit into it.
As GameGus said "The exclusive smiley is once again a brilliant idea, and I do hope you will keep it in coming competitions.".
So, as RPGMaster2000's question was, I do not agree with the idea of making it available to everyone, even if it would only be through gems. Heck, I haven't got it myself yet. Maybe in a year or so, when you've had other competitions with other smiley "trophies", that you sell them to the public. But that's a future question.
I would just like to point out to Niufox that, unlike the prizes in that contest, the prizes on EE are currently worth no cash value whatsoever. So it is plausible for the prizes to be released. I would also like to point out that the + energy is more than enough on it's on, as was proven in the past.
That being said, I would now like to reiterate my idea that the bunny smiley should be released simply because it's Easter, and ALL of the contest winners receive the bird smiley. That will no doubt cause an uproar amongst the first place winners, but it will also appease the rest of the EE.
Okay, sorry, that was maybe a bad example. If you participated in a sports event, just for amateurs or maybe kids and youngsters, and won a not-so-pricey "golden" trophy, would you want that to be shared to every other participant?
And in the past, that wasn't proven. There where in fact much fewer participants at the last contest than this time, and the cause of that could be discussed. We don't know if it were because of the fact that it wasn't as much noticed, or that people wouldn't bother making levels just for energy.
But you do have a point, that the bunny should be released just because it's easter. Although, couldn't we let this competition be, with all it's "child-diseases", and improve until next time? And, as I said, maybe release the bunny for purchase or energy next easter?
It just occurred to me (and what RPG said to me) that we're forgetting the entire purpose of a competition.
People create something, and the best wins. Those are the only two components of a competition, and that's all it should be.
"People create something" means no teams. This way you're showing your true talent, and we're all not wasting time making teams, arguing over ideas, and all that.
"The best wins" means, the best wins. Whether it be 10+ judges, or user-voting, the best levels should win.
Now, a flaw you might notice with the "no teams" rule is that not everyone is good at art AND minigames. I'm not willing to alter my opinion and allowing teams, because then it goes against the rules of a true competition. The only solution is for everyone to try their best, and the people with the most talent get awarded a prize.
Remember that last sentence. "...and the people with the most talent get awarded a prize."
In my opinion, a contest is NOT a contest if we're judging teams' work instead of players' work.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Tako, you are missing the fact that much of the real world is about working together in teams and that people are graded by team products, not individual accomplishments.
Also, EE is a social game, it would be denying a large aspect of the "fun" parts of the game if teams were eliminated

That would be changing the rules of the game after the fact, which is unfair to all the participants. At this time, it's best to keep both smilies exclusive, and to allow some time to pass so that the next contest can be discussed with less emotion. BTW, the solution is not the one that pleases the most people, that will always result in an unfair decision and it will not protect the integrity of the contest.
Right now, most of the supporters for releasing one or both of the prize smilies claim it's "unfair" for there to be exclusive smilies, especially ones that are holiday themed. Since none of these protests existed before the contest, and since the rules of the contest were clear, the prizes cannot be (for now) released. IMO, these two smilies should remain exclusive until at least next Easter, and at that time I think it will be fair to revisit this topic.
Future prizes should continue to include exclusive prizes such as smilies since those are the only true motivators that bring out the best in the teams. However, I do agree that perhaps at the same time as the holiday contest, a new free smiley should be available in the store to avoid future complaints.
TakoMan02 - Your definition of a competition is far too narrow and goes against practically all existing definitions. A competition is an event or contest in which people compete. The word "people" makes no distinction between teams and individuals, so both are clearly allowed. Teams are in fact seen in numerous competitions, such as sports, cooking and baking, construction, music, design, and the list goes on.
This makes teamwork an integral part in the competition, for choosing teams and maintaining chemistry become important factors in the contest, and that's perfectly fine. In fact, the best maps are always made with teams, since it's very difficult to fill an entire map with unique minis without having different builders with varying styles, and since the feedback between members helps to prevent bias from creeping in and tainting the map.
So while it's your opinion that teams are not legitimate in a contest, the rest of the world disagrees and in a game as social as EE, it only makes sense to continue to allow teams. You are of course welcome to enter the next contest solo if you truly and firmly disagree with teams.
^Basically what he said, but less words. I worked hard for energy AND a smiley. It feels nice being able to be one of a few. Not saying we should go around shoving it in people's faces but just having it and being able to know you worked hard for it. Max energy isn't much good unless you don't plan on leaving EE for a day or two.

Refills are nice too.
I think everyones just mad because they didnt win, well tough. I didnt win i have gotten over it. Though i am angry that there is no easter smiley, release another one with a different colour so its obvious who one.
It is not worth having another exclusive prize if everyone whines about it.
I absolutely agree with Mustang, you couldn't have put it better.
If you would make a different smiley to be available in the shop, instead of simply putting out the contest smiley with a different color than the exclusive one (a bunny smiley in another color has been frequently suggested in this and other forums), make a simplified one, such as a normal ":)" smiley with bunny ears.
The contest is sort of like a sports competition. You enter to win. The contest will always be ?unfair? (type 2: see sources). In both an EE contest and a sports competition, the winners are the players with the most experience and talent. In the case of the EE contest, many of the losers simply lacked the experience in order to win. Therefore getting the smileys + energy was seemingly impossible making the contest seemingly ?unfair? (type 1: see sources). However the contest is not ?unfair? (type 1: see sources) as the judges honestly picked which levels they though were the best.
There weren?t many new users coming to the forums in order to submit their levels, get feedback, and have a better chance at winning the next contest. Also many people that entered this contest entered it for the same reason many people enter the lottery. If they don?t enter there is no chance of winning. Yet many people simply didn?t put in the effort to even make a level and some of those who did submitted levels that seemed ?half-assed?. This shows that many people wanted to win yet didn?t try to win and won?t try to improve. This is probably since many users of EE (and probably the contest) are younger children who are used to things being done for them instead of being independent. I believe that if someone posts their contest level on the forums yet seems very ?noobish? we should actually tell them how they could improve instead of the generic ?it sucked?. Those who try to improve have guts, unlike all those ?other people?.
One reason toy companies get kids to buy their products is that they construct their advertisements to create jealousy within individuals. It has even become sort of a culture. With that mindset, not having something that someone else has makes things seems ?unfair?(type 1: see sources). On the other hand, having something exclusive feels great. In regards to the current smiley situation, I think that the smileys should stay 100% exclusive. If you?re going to be as lenient as to release those smileys, then you might as well also release the Xmas 2010 and New Years 2011 stuff again as well. The winners earned their prizes ?fair and square?. Releasing the smileys would take away the ?special? aspect of them.
So here is my question for you guys: Is it fair to keep the exclusive smileys of the deserving winners exclusive or to give in to the general crowd who wants something for nothing?
Disagree with my opinion? Think I?m biased? I?d like to hear your opinions about this. Who knows, you guys might change what I think about this topic entirely.
P.S. If your going to release the smileys in a year or a few months, post that in the blog post beforehand since more people read the blog than the forums. That way, the amount of complaints will be reduced.
P.S.S. Personally, my opinion for smaller contests is not to have prizes at all. Due to our culture, many people would enter just for the heck of it (and to win some ?free? energy) and not necessarily to get better at making levels. Mentoring power should not be wasted on people who join the contest solely for the prize. Learning from a master should be a sufficient prize. That way, all people who are willing to work towards the goal of winning(in an official contest) have opportunities to learn to be great level builders.

Okay, lemme state my idea here, since people seem to think that I disagree with the contest completely and such, when I hadn't even posted my beliefs about the contest on the forums
I think a seperate easter smiley should be released for all of us, but the smileys should stay exclusive. Exclusive prizes should not be used in excess in the future, but exclusive things once or twice a year are alright. I don't think the contest was judged all that well, but that's in the past and there's no point in arguing it so far after the fact.
I hate tall signatures.

It is not worth having another exclusive prize if everyone whines about it.
This is the most likely solution, though I'm starting to doubt whether ANY solution will be used. I would be very happy with this; it will please many people that we're finally getting a new smiley.
By the way, did the winners get their smilies yet? I haven't seen anyone, but I thought it was supposed to be updated yesterday.
Nope..No sign of Smilies or Chris for that matter.
Chris has yet to get online since about friday. Something tells me that he's been very busy. I'll still let you know as soon as something new happens.
I'm so tired at all those kids that didn't win the contest and crying about the smileys. Why not give everyone the smileys so we can stop the kids from crying. Because i don't care anymore about the smileys. Just give me the 1000 energy and I'm happy.
It's always something that the kids needs to cry and whine about. It was ok with the smileys when the contest still was open. But now it isn't ok.. Kids can't loose thats the fact. Else they will cry and whine about it because they did such a huge work on their levels.

This topic is now full of people whining about how much people are whining
RPGMaster2000 wrote:So the general consensus so far is that eventually releasing the smileys after a couple of months for a certain amount of gems is alright with the winners? Gonna need all the winners to post here so that I can gauge your opinions.
Why? Because that every kids cry that they are not going to get the smiley because they lose the contest.
The reason i was for this contest was to maybe got to top and get energy and those smileys. And have fun of course. Why release it to other guys? Let the winners get something that other peoples doesn't have.
If this is going to happen, I'm going to left this game forever. I'm so tired of all this kids that need everything.
"Oh i didn't win, i want the smileys plz plz *cry to mommy*"What about the santa smiley and new year hat. and the bricks for that too. I don't have the new year smiley, so for the bricks for new year and the bricks for the christmas. And i don't cry about that because thats what happen when i didn't pay or use my energy on it. Chris had it on for x days to be so. Why change that? What's the point?
Let the old players have the hats and not give them to the new guys.
That's different. It is certain that not everyone can receive a bird or bunny. It's that obvious. But the event smileys, everyone had the potential to get them. Only 10 teams could get an exclusive smiley, no more no less. The santa and new years was different, it was restricting people.
Penguin wrote:johan wrote:don't ever release the prizes, then noone would bother to make a good map for upcoming contests; only hasty half-attemps.
don't listen to these morons^
Excuse me? Morons? No ones going to risk doing hasty half-attempts. No ones going to be stupid to do that. Besides, a lot of people do this stuff for fame and the energy. I agree with the delay and gems, but don't make the gems crazy like the Big Spender. Make it maybe like 100-200 gems.
you are very wrong so be quiet, exclusive prizes for contests make them way more interesting and make people put more effort into their works.
and why the hell does everyone suggest to realse them for gems? so only the spoiled cry babies would be able to get them?
Do you not like people expressing their opinion? Why are you telling me to "be quiet?" If people chose to do half-attempts, they would be risking the chance of winning. Not everyone is going to make hasty half-attempts, so the lazy people are going to lose. You don't need special prizes to make a contest interesting. The energy prize made it very interesting already, giving people to brag about having more than 1500 energy.
Don't double post, Penguin.
@above. Sorry, I don't understand the rules and ideas of this forum yet. Is there a link to rules and stuff anywhere? I'm new here and adapting from another forum I constantly go on too.
In my opinion, I think the energy idea is the coolest around. I mean, I bet some people already have around 2000 energy. Just imagine getting a refill from a magic coins. I think that's godly and awesome. But I really think some prizes of quicker energy replenishing ratio/rates should be implemented.
