It's because there is no mail server set. I suppose NVD decided it wasn't useful to have one anymore and deleted it.

I mean we had a fully functioning mail server set up (in fact, it's still working), so NVD intentionally went through the trouble of changing the domain's MX records...

Yep. Tried to email about an account transfer and got this too. Along with a ton of google server weird spam thing. Oh well.
