Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

This:

21:11      RPGM2K      Nou: One judge rated my list on difficulty, that was about it.
21:11      @Nou      sigh

In other words: RPG did 99% by himself.

Thanks

I did read your post Nou, and I appreciate you posting. I'm not sure what will happen but hopefully it will be for the better.

You reassure me that things will be ok and I thank you for that.

For anyone that wasn't aware, RPGMaster did all the judging for this contest on his own.

Anyway, I understand that Chris was making this a very difficult contest to run, but RPG taking upon the task of judging 200+ levels in a matter of days seemed based of his and/or the community's impatience, not good judgement.

There is obviously no way anyone could judge all these levels in such a short period of time; anyone can see that. Why RPG decided to rush things I don't know. I for one would rather have accurate results even if takes longer than just picking the popular choices that are "supposed" to win.

As was made apparent in the choosing of "Moggie's World", levels were played for very short amounts of time. "Moggie's World" is only playable until an impossible challenge very early on. So why did it win? The art. That's the only reason it could've won, since the level is unplayable. Congrats on cheating someone else out of a winning slot, MX2. Not your faut, however.

So unless MX2's world was just some "freak accident" and RPG, by some ungodly ability, was able to play through 200+ levels completely in a matter of days, we can determine that the winners are primarily art-based, which completely ruined the chances of levels like mine and others' that focused on gameplay instead of pretty pictures on the minimap.

I would much rather wait and have Chris's selected judges do the judging at their own pace than have RPG rush and release his own winners merely for the sake of having the results done sooner.

Definitely not participating in any further contests if this is how they're going to be run.

There were 169 levels in total, not 200+. I expect the reason he decided to rush things was because there were far more people on the forums saying "When will the results come? We want results!" rather than people saying "We're patient people. We can wait."

RPG went into the level just after posting about it and confirmed it was an accident. He believed a jump glitch made that mini possible at the time of testing a few weeks back. As a result, he has stated he will try to persuade Chris when he next sees him to allow a 5th 3rd place (as can be seen in Nou's post).

He had specific criteria to follow from Chris and considering some of the things mentioned in the original blog post regarding the competition were that they were looking for good art, good minis, and good integration between the two, I don't think he was overly biased by not making yours a top 12 level.

From the sounds of it, although it was mostly down to Chris' terrible organization regarding this competition, it was his friends who let him down because they stopped replying to his emails.

The most annoying thing for me is that it doesn't matter what I say here. Everyone now hates me for placing with my level and if I say I don't think I should have placed it would seem ungrateful. People will constantly accuse me so I will try to defend myself by pointing out that I was very strict in following the rules. You will not find a single black box in my level and from playing most of the Hallowe'en levels, it seems that mine may be the only one. Every single mini I have included is fully integrated into the art and I made it freeform to stand out from the crowd. I wasn't expecting to get 1st place as I was really just aiming to get into the top 12 and I succeeded at that. I spent a huge amount of time on the level and I know that many other people spent a large amount of time on theirs too and they're disappointed they didn't place as a result. To those people I say that your levels weren't bad if they didn't place. There was always only going to be a top 12 and considering 169 levels were entered, that means 157 of those levels HAD to lose.

In my opinion, this competition brought out the best in people. There were far better levels in this contest than the Easter contest and the competition was truly intense. Naturally, as people saw what they were up against, they spent more time on their own levels to improve. This meant that there were dozens of levels that got thousands of plays and I would like to thank Chris and RPGMaster2000 for hosting a competition that could bring the wonderful creativity out of people.

Would any of you have made the Hallowe'en Levels that you did if there were no Hallowe'en Competition?

I'm assuming that RPGmaster, like most of us, have been playing through the levels and picking which he liked the most since the levels were submitted, if not before then.

I mean it only took me 6 hours to review the levels' art (would have taken me about 7 hours if you included the backup levels) and most of that included typing up the comments about it (When I reviewed EXcrew's top 25 it took me about a half an hour with just a rating on a tenpoint scale for art)

Now I know that it takes me a long time to get through a level minigame wise, but I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't take RPGmaster three hours to get through a medium difficulty level like it does me...

Re: Halloween contest feedback thread.

Here is what bothers me the most. Look at these photos:

J4QEq.png
ZWHNG.png
nwub5.png

There all really good levels right? I'll give these users props, because they are all awesome levels. But wasn't the contest to create a HALLOWEEN THEMED level?

This is my main issue with the whole judging. This contest was about who could create the most original, spooky, creepy, but fun level. None of the levels above even make me think of Halloween, except for SS Haunted cave, but only because it literally says "Happy Halloween"

This contest was not about creating a level that's just weird or scary, it is about creating a level that best represents the American holiday of Halloween. In fact, if this wasn't a contest, I wouldn't even consider these to be Halloween themed at all.

Are they bad? No not at all. Should they have won? I don't really think so. I don't think anyone really made a bad level, I just don't think that some of the winners were able to create a level that really made me feel like it was actually Halloween.

Now look at this level:

vh54O.png

Doesn't it make you think of Halloween? You don't even have to play it to know it has something to do with Halloween. It just looks like it does, and that is why I'm against the current results.

It has nothing to do with anyones level being horrible or bad, but rather some maps don't even appear to match the theme they are competing for.

I managed to get a hold of Chris today and I have some good news that I think will please most of you.

A re-judging will not be held, and the current winners will keep their prizes. HOWEVER, We will also be fusing the current list with the community-driven list made by the EX Crew so that even more teams will be able to get the prizes that they rightfully deserve.

I will see if I can get in touch with EX Crew so that we can discuss this over chat later tonight when I have time. Chris also apologizes for the terrible mis-management of the judging process and made sure that this structure will not be used next contest.

Ah, forgot how many levels weren't eligible, and, yeah, I figured the rushing would be based on the community's impatience rather than RPG's.

If that's true, I apologize for repeatedly stating that the judging was rushed! From the way it sounded in another post, RPG was going to start judging last Sunday and all the judging would take place in just over a week.

If it sounded like I was implying that I was angry because my level didn't win, sorry. I didn't have any other levels in mind and used mine as an example of a level that mainly focuses on gameplay instead of minimap art. Obviously there were others but I didn't feel like going searching for more examples.

My level didn't make it into the top 25 in the community judging either, but I'd be more than glad to accept those results instead.

Yes, there were a lot of reasons this contest was a flop. Oh well, problem seems to be somewhat soved now.

The art is noobish,not shaded.
Minis are confusing.

thats really not fair because members of the judging commitees are participating in the contest, which makes it very bias >.< this competition is a major FAIL //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

also the criteria found on the blog is different from ex crews criteria. So after basing mine, and other worlds, off of the given criteria on the blog, then we are being judged off some completely different criteria! ughh //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

oh yea and will there be a 5th third place? and what about honerable mentions?

We submitted a joke map as EX so we're not in and we don't allow people to judge their own maps.
