Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Exclusively for the community, here's the dice Chris uses when he has to make an update and has to decide what will be in this update.
( There's no brick / smiley side because it's on another dice. )YOU TOO CAN DECIDE WHAT IS GOOD FOR EE !
Just print the cube and have fun !Your terrorist reporter,

I found the other dice

Huhu.
Nice
Anyway, I agree with D-rock too, the decorations were not meant to be showed on the minimap. It was just ugly in game.
BUT Chris should really think about stuff like this before, ask the dev team, and even ask the community, because "Ok it has a minimap color" and then "Oh, nvm, it shouldn't have a minimap color" is just terrible when you're a map maker. Just choose a artistic direction and just follow, don't change your mind every month about what is wrong and what isn't. You can't just give players a tool and then remove it. It's a terrible choice.
Also, since he doesn't listen to the community and don't say what he wants to do and what he will do a few week before an update, people get surprised every time and just rage. Pretty sure that most of the rage/rant thread can be avoided if he just tell people what is going on. This wont last forever, I hope he's aware of that.

Chris really is a smart man, and this move has cemented that fact. Why, you ask?
Here's a comment he made to his blog post yesterday:
"I am a strong believer in taking hard choices. People hate chance and won?t accept them, even if they are for the better. The background blocks now allow for minimap colors on movable areas thus shading of decorations are just a rather annoying legacy."
I think we all (myself included) lose sight of the fact that this is Chris' game. Not ours, not yours, not mine. HIS. And if he wants to change something, I support that, because he CAN. So what if we lose a couple minimap colors? The backgrounds can be good replacements, and plus this clears up space for the big Christmas update.

This, and sorry @32OrtonEdge32dh@ but even if it's his game and not ours, even if he owns it and he can do whatever he wants, he just can't. Because we use it, and if he wants to do whatever he wants without asking the users, then it's a total disgrace and people will quit eventually. I can't live like that. How many times did he change without letting us know? The blog is working as a news site, a magazine. It doesn't work as a blog, Chris tells us really nothing. He is either a total moron or a total ****.

Let's look at the bright side...
At least it wasn't during a contest.
We all complain at Chris constantly during his busy life, then when we get an update, we all complain for how crappy it is and all the problems with it...
And so the cycle continues...
Cmon Chris, don't be stupid. That was a stupid move. What the heck?
We'll just get used to the fact that he ruins everything.

Well, you have just ruined my worlds again.
And also we lost a lot of minimap colors. I think it would be better if you would first create a poll for these stuff?

I completely agree this update sucks and I know this is Chris game and that he could run it but he should listen to the players or people are going to leave even the pros like dazz he should change it before people start leaving more.

This game belongs to Chris. He doesn't care who comes and goes, all he cares about is making his game the way he wants it. Does that make him selfish? No, it belongs to him. Everyone needs to stop whining and get over it. If you want the game to look different then make your own game.

I agree with you for once! (Completly off the point, you made my day)
People relise this game is in BETA and is not what we call an finished project by all means, because
Chris doesn't have nearly enough time for him to test ever little aspect, that is what ALL OF US BETA people are for, and when they find a bug, they go WAHAMBULANCEWAAAAAAAA I QUIT! WAAAAAHABULANCend
My point is that for chris, he has balls.
"Then why does he even make us a flashgame?"
Then EE would never have existed and kept us busy making levels.
I'm not going saying all you idiots are wrong are anything, because
there are updates, in the past I disagreed with, such as the horrid physics update that came with backgrounds.
But I am saying you ido--
um, people need to look at the other perspective of this.
Noticed how I put effects on that?
This way when you guys complain again, you wouldn't say "OH I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT THIS".
Maybe Chris thought that this would make the game looks smoother.
Sure, I am absolutly sure he thought of us, and how "it would polish the game" and make some levels look smoother.
You may not agree with that perspective, but so we were not either, stalemate.
Then the matter of changing the game goes down to the fact the game is
his and not ours; which Failgirl nicely and smartly pointed out, and we have to
agree with it. OKAY, I am good with that.
1) Its just a game.
2) Its a game I enjoy
3) I understand chris's perspective
Those 3 things are what keeps me from raging and complaining (most of the time!)
about how the game is.
You may not agree with me, and that is your opinion, but if you do understand this; your using onething many people on this forum don't do..
Using your brain.
Well, I basically stopped making levels and updating my levels because of the updates that changes everything (art or gameplay), dazz is going to quit because of this. Why ? because updating our levels take way too much time especially if he change his mind every 3 months, and this will go on forever, with more and more people leaving if he continues to do so. He needs to warn people on what is going on, again.
Also, the game isn't in beta, it just have premium account. Betas don't test anything, and a lot of bug reported by betas are still here or were fixed months and months later, in other words : when it was released to public. So no, there's no such thing as "beta account", just premium accounts.
( Reming me when did beta tested something new ? portals, 10 months ago ? )
Oh, and since non-beta players can play worlds with beta features, they can also report the bugs. So yeah, no beta-testing.²
Btw, do you remember this : http://blog.everybodyedits.com/2011/04/ … edits-1-0/ ?
What happenned to this EE 1.0 thing ? The only thing "beta" players tested was portals and one way blocks - that have just one direction... That's not "a lot of new features". So, no, it's definitly not in beta.
So, again, I agree with him, decos are terribly looking when used for art - on the game screen ofc, but he shouldn't give something to the players and than take it away saying "lol sorry it was a mistake.". It's just wrong. I wonder how you would react if something similar happened IRL ? Would you accept that someone that gave you new color pens for your drawings just take them away and say "well sorry I made a mistake.". It's the exact same thing. Especially since you buyed - with your time or with your money - the pens.
Why did he gave decos minimap colors in the first place ? Oh, wait, we don't know, since he doesn't say anything. Nothing on the blog, nothing on twitter. Was it just a random choice ? Why didn't he realized that giving new colors to the players would make them using them on the minimap ? How can't he see this ? And did it take like 5 months to realize that it was bad looking on the game screen ? What is he doing ? He doesn't even play his own game.
Oh, and consummers have rights, it's that kind of way of thinking that turned all video games into "first day DLC" things and buggy versions at releases ( Rage, BF3, Assassin's Creed, etc. ). You have to stop thinking that, because he is the creator, he doesn't have to give a damn about us. I mean, some of us gave him MONEY, we can at least expect him to act seriously and coherently.
EDIT : Because saying "Shut up it's his game, you don't have anything to say about it" is silly. Can't we have opinions ? Can't we say what we think ? What we want ? How is he going to improve his game if he is surrounded by yesmen ans shoeslickers ?
EDIT 2 : "Well, he's the king, it's HIS country, who are you to say that slaying people in the name's of HIS country is wrong ? It's not yours ! You can't say things like this" Another example

Dude. You say that saying that it's his game is silly, but it's true. If he wants it to be a certain way, he has the right to. You can say and think whatever you wants, but he doesn't have to listen. And that yes men thing cracked me up. Look at General Discussion after an update and tell me just how many yes men you see aside from me.

I didn't say that there were only yesmens. I don't know where you read that. I said that if we do what you say aka stop saying what we think because it's his game, he'll only be surrounded by yesmens, and will never progress and make things good. ( PROTIP : Think George Lucas. )

When did we elected Chris or Peter ?

Okay, he's the king. Big difference.
I never said that you said only yes men. And plus, RPG has told and will tell him if an update is bad, he's not an asskisser.
And the overall point: HE DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE THINGS GOOD. He just has to make them how HE AND ONLY HE wants them.
Offline
Well, I can see what you mean by "He doesn't have to make things good" ( removed the caps lock ), sure, he can do everything he wants. He can also stop coding, or sell the game code to some random people or just make it open source.
I know RPG is a good guy and he's doing his job well.
So, I have several questions : Should we just shut up and let him do what he wants ? Should we censor ourselves ? What should we do ? Nothing ? Then what is the point of this forum if it's not to talk about the game ? ( In good or in bad ? )
EDIT : I'm curious, do you agree with the rest of my arguments in my wall-of-text Orton ? Be honnest, as always, I'd like to know what you think.

I assure you these changes are sometimes for the good. I can agree certainly physic updates are the worst, and the current one we have is OKAY. But the fact in the future, he might add charged jumps, or even better; instead of a "U" shaped jump, allow control of how high your jump would make the game physic's much more fluential. Your saying here; ANY CHANGE IS BAD, Where some change is good, and if that were to ever come in an update, it would break so much, But in return would bring much more to the game.

Then overall, it changed the game to something he didn't like. He changed it back. In HIS perspective, he thought it would change the game to something everyone else would enjoy. We might not agree with it, but he would; WHICH creates an "Stalemate". Where does it go when that happens? Oh I remember; something I cleverly coined in my other post "The Owner". So our owner of the game likes to go on with it, and then does; remember; he is thinking of us when this is going on, so we really can't "hate him" for it. How much did those pens cost by the way? Well, I never said that any change is bad.
I said that he should just keep a coherent game direction. Let me take another ( crappy ? ) example : Imagine EE is a boat exploring the seas. Why would the captain change the boat's direction every week without explaining anything to the crew ?
And if he deosn't want to listen, he can just SAY what he's doing, it takes like 10 minutes to make a blog post, and this would prevent people from ranting/complaining after EACH update, like Orton said.
So your here saying that just because the game didn't get many features, it is not in beta? Wut.. This is where you throw me off into an trance because you didn't think about that statement. Your again, biasing your opinion withen a certain group and not all, that corrupts your opinion otherwise.
Well, I have been luckily picked to be a beta-tester in Star Wars - The Old Republic, and I've beta-tested Starcraft 2, WoW Cataclysm, I regulary play on the WoW testing servers for future patch and track bugs, i have created two ( very ) small games with RPG makers that were beta-tested, and I have made a huge project in a team that needed beta-testing, so I know how a beta-tests works.
First of all, a beta test is FREE. The game developpers want the player to test their buggy game for THEM - when you code, the only way you can track bug is testing your program. You're not going to pay to play something that isn't finish, it doesn't make sense. Well, at least, I hope you don't do this IRL.
During the beta-test, you're always reminded that this is a beta, you have to test the features, and report the bugs, and 95% of the bugs are fixed until they introduce something / add something. There are test - Stress test often, like "everyone please send a bug report in the same time now !" - and each time you test a feature, you have the opportunity to give your opinions about the game. And there are MCQs whith "cons" answer like "No it was terrible" "No, but no that bad", "Yes, it was fine" , etc.
Also, You don't get ANYTHING from the beta-test. In SWTOR, my character is going to be deleted unless I bought the game. In WoW, all the characters are on other servers and will be deleted once the beta is over. In Starcraft 2, my beta profile was deleted.
Finally, when I asked players to beta-test my small games, I asked them to report every single bug on the game and stopped added things until the bugs get fixed. I tried not to change anything in the game, because I already choosed my art/gameplay direction and I knew what I wanted. Also, I used to play my game and find bugs by myself. Oh, and it's the same thing when I code something for school, even the small exercices. I TEST things everyday at schools.
Do you actually feel that Chris knows what he want for his game ?
So my point is : This isn't a beta. We don't know what this is, since CHris doesn't tell us anything actually.
But yes, I know, people still reports bug when it's the release version.
Um, its in beta. The owner can call a game into beta when ever he damn well wants. You do not change that sir.
I agree, but as I said, EE is not in beta. Not for me.
You throw in semi-good points -- AKA the Sub-subqouted parts.. But then again; Let me throw in 2 more points in here.. It might have been experimental, as in to see how it would look to ee... Then overall, it changed the game to something he didn't like. He changed it back. In HIS perspective, he thought it would change the game to something everyone else would enjoy. First point is a good point indeed. It just took way too much time, and my guess is he didn't expect people to use decorations for the minimap. It was still the right thing to do.
How much did those pens cost by the way? What was the purpose of those pens? Can you not find those pens somewhere else? Could you get your money back? You didn't think of those points when you made this. What about the game? Did your parents, or the old wives tale of spending things on the internet is dangerous and stupid? We still do it anyways, This game could die any day. The reason you buy stuff online is because you support it and you WANT it. You wanted those pens yes, but you could buy it somewhere else where in this game, you can't buy the :3, or the santa smiley, as an example.
About the pens, it was a bad example, it was quite hard to find a similar situation IRL.
But yeah, the purpose of the pens is to give you more colors to use in your drawings. The pens either cost you x hours of drawing or some dollars. You can't find the pens somewhere else. ( Why am I answering these questions in the wrong order ? xD )
Your questions definitly shows me why I hesitated to delete this example. ²
He could be buried in his coding software coding for us. It might have been experemental. It was a GOOD thing he waited a while to see it, to give the "experiment" an chance.[/u]
Too long for me.
You should know that I usualy imagine myself being the people I criticize - this gives you empathy, which helps me understanding people. Here, I can't understand Chris. And when I can, I just ask myself : Why didn't he saw this earlier ? This as been going for months. People will always use this "tool" now.
No, you are lost in your own post. You are wrong, consumers INFLUENCE the product, but not DECIDE WHAT THE OWNER DOES to the product. Lost, perhaps, it was 3am, now it's 5am, so I may be a bit tired. x)
You made a good point, the only person I know "well" and who really left EE is tokebot. I'm still here because, well, there are people I like on this forums - even if I don't agree with them sometimes ( Hi Tako, TGT and others. Even you Orton ), and because EE helped me discovering that I had some skills in drawing, and is therefore something I care about because I feel I owe it something. That's why I complain and try giving my opinion about this game and it's why I haven't gived up ( wrong tense used ? ) about its development. It may be hard to understand, it's something quite special.
Wow that was a mouthful. Hopefully you understand now.
Thanks for answering me.
It's nice to debate with you, you make good points and argue well about what you think is right, I like this.
EDIT : I just noticed that I use "Well" a lot, I have to find other way to start sentences in english. x)

Well, I never said that any change is bad.
I said that he should just keep a coherent game direction. Let me take another ( crappy ? ) example : Imagine EE is a boat exploring the seas. Why would the captain change the boat's direction every week without explaining anything to the crew ?
And if he deosn't want to listen, he can just SAY what he's doing, it takes like 10 minutes to make a blog post, and this would prevent people from ranting/complaining after EACH update, like Orton said.Persona wrote:So your here saying that just because the game didn't get many features, it is not in beta? Wut.. This is where you throw me off into an trance because you didn't think about that statement. I will agree with you and how chris doesn't listen to the community well, we can atleast thank RPGMASTER for that, but then again; you throw me off with the "A log of bugs are reported were fixed months and months later.. Are you talking about the lack of updates? We are still reporting bugs, and Chris is still fixing some of them, and that is ALL that matters when you are beta testing. Do you know how hard it is to reach to Mozzila and post bug reports THAT they listen to? Your just bia'sing your opinion amoung the fact that Chris is lazy, which is not true! And sir, its more then just placing and letting nonbeta players screw around with portals. There are sometimes the bugs he MISSES to see such as the "Backgrounds overiding bricks" bug that happend a few weeks ago.
Do you actually feel that Chris knows what he want for his game ?So my point is : This isn't a beta. We don't know what this is, since CHris doesn't tell us anything actually.
But yes, I know, people still reports bug when it's the release version.Um, its in beta.
²He could be buried in his coding software coding for us.
People will always use this "tool" now.No, you are lost in your own post. You are wrong, consumers INFLUENCE the product, but not DECIDE WHAT THE OWNER DOES to the product. Some companys, sure; they change if many hate it, so does EE (Sometimes). No one leaves EE, literatly; they come back, because they then wonder what a stupid arguement they made with EE, because they don't "use thier brain" when it comes to arguing. They are lost in thier "Fan Area", which in yourcase; is on the side where you complain about EVERYTHING CHRIS DOES, even if in the future, would eventually give something more to EE. And no, that last sentence is something you don't expect; because your on the internet, your not facing word to word and you don't know who is behind that computer.
It may be hard to understand, it's something quite special.Wow that was a mouthful. Hopefully you understand now.
Thanks for answering me.
It's nice to debate with you, you make good points and argue well about what you think is right, I like this.EDIT : I just noticed that I use "Well" a lot, I have to find other way to start sentences in english. x)
With your first reply; I get what you are saying, but then; your implying an "Life to death" (in this case the ship and the captain exmample) to something much smaller, and examples in REAL LIFE do not work well with stuff on the internet.
If you want an example: heres one.
Lets talk about Gay-ol-google.
What did they do to youtube recently?
People are hating youtube because of the new layout.
Buuuuuuuut.. They leave; they leave for 2 days, and then they
come back because, they realize that the site is popular and many of
thier stars are on the product. If everyone that he was substribed to moved to lets, lets just say BlipTV.. Then they would leave; they would actually leave.
People come back because the community of the product (this doesn't always apply to real life) because it is indeed to stressful to change gears; As in habits. Yours it to Play EE. You'd be affected most via this. Are you catching me? You'd rather stay put, then change; because EVERYONE hates change, which is why everyone is criticising chris.
You also bring up multiple company s and how they run thier game.
Sure; they delete thier beta people, to give everyone advantage.
But, They are a different game.
Not EE.
All it comes down to.
Sacred Word
Change
It was also fun debating, I am in my debate club at school and feel like this has t ought me well.

I feel saddened by the text wall party I have started.
Here's the bottom line and LAST crappy example.
Let's say EE is a piece of paper, and I am Chris. I am sitting on a chair in the middle of a busy sidewalk. As I am folding the papEEr, some people breeze by, some people stop and look, others shout out what they think it's gonna be when I'm done, and even more give me ideas. Even though everyone involved wants it to be something, I know what I want it to be and that's what it will be in the end. It might have elements of what other people suggested, but it's still MY origami.
Offline
That is a good example; as the paper is implying ideas into ours!
