I use arrows, and to counter my ghost combination (<+^+_), I simply use 'W' when needed. And no I'm not on a QWERTY.

My keyboard can handle 5 buttons at once so I don't really have a problem with dead combos. I do, however, still use WASD almost religiously. The only time I'll switch to the arrow keys is if I need to mash space. It's much nicer to play with a free hand, so you can draw/move at the same time really easily.

That's why I always use WASD when I'm building. I only use arrows keys for playing minis because I find it more comfortable/easy. Though WASD isn't too uncomfortable, I just can't do hard minis with it.

It all depends whether you have a mechanical keyboard really. Mechanical keyboards can handle as many inputs as you press.

Not necessarily. Mine will only do six. Some USB keyboards offer NKRO somehiow, but in general only PS/2 offers true NKRO.

I can do 4 keys without locking up. My keyboard isn't cheap though

Edit:

I can also use the function key + volume + next track + play/pause
Also caps + scroll lock + num lock

So it's 10
