Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Please reply to this.
Didn't think about the shared part. That would be a decent reason to make it cost more than a penny.
Yeah. With the old system, 3$ would get me 100 shared accounts with chat.
Now it gets 1.
And that 1 account isn't worth the money.
You guys do realize you kept calling Julian a greedy dip***t over his generous offer, right? And heck, you guys do realize there is less shared accounts in EE, thanks to Julian, right?
Honestly, stop being short-minded, peeps.

As posted before, the amount was increased because both Paypal and parents found transactions of such small amounts to look suspicious. The cost is now $3 but that is more than reimbursed back to the player as they get the equivalent of $5 worth of in-game currency. It also has the added benefit of cutting the amount of chat-sharers.
The whole issue of managing who can chat has always been a difficult one (it's why only admins can place text-blocks) but it's never been something they've aimed to profit off of which is clear when you take into account that when it was a 1 cent charge the transaction fee actually meant money was being lost for each person who brought chat.
Sucks but it's the way it is. I do think a chat + beta option would be nice though.
Chat used to come along with Beta when it was first released. It cost one cent because Chris was all WOOPDEEDURP WE GOTTA **** OFF DEH USERZ IM NOT GETTING SUED BRO
Hmm, let's see....
Editors note: Stop reading after the 50% discount part, the rest is sort of nonsense.
If beta costs $10, and chat costs $3, mixing them together should be around $11.50 since chat would just be free if it was included in a beta package worth $10, and half of $3 is $1.50, giving a 50% discount on the chat, and there are 50 states in the U.S.A., and the U.S.A. is one country, and there are about 23 countries in North America, and North America is a continent, and there are 7 continents, and 50 x 1 x 23 x 1 x 7 = 8050, the correct price of chat should be around $8,050. Hope this helps.
Don't give him any ideas.

For some greedy reason they made it cost $3.00 now. **** move, am I right?
You're absolutley right
As said on the blog, "We have had some issues that people found it ?fishy? to be paying 1 cent for something. Also PayPal has sometimes contacted us suspecting fraud. So from now on, to enable chat you have to pay 3 dollars, but will be given 50 gems (which would normally cost 5 dollars). We hope this new deal works out better for everyone.". That is why he gives you 50 gems. Please read the blog about updates before blaming Chris.

Regardless whether it is beneficiary to users' in one way, it shouldn't have to be $3.00.
It shouldn't have to be $2.00, it shouldn't have to be $1.00, it shouldn't even have to cost 1 cent.
But it does.
Why is that? Because Chris is frightened by the idea of a report system, and is afraid of parents' disapprobation.
And if anyone's idea is [one] of the crucial aspects of having to pay for chat is to prevent harassment, then it is not working very well.
I call bologna on it all.

I know you are just kidding, but how does this problem have anything to do with countries and continents?
You guys are blaming Chris for trying to make a game safer for kids. Yeah making chat cost money is a bad idea but he is probably concerned with the safety of the kids online. Although he could be doing this only for money and keeping EE from getting sued, etc. But lets look outside the box and think about the positive things this brings us.
Btw this topic is almost as famous as the sticky "Let's fix parental control" even though it is exactly the same.

It is good to take precaution and avoid harassment, that's fine.
The money aspect of fit all isn't fitting at all.
Contrary to belief, it wasn't just "Make it cost money!" or "No chat at all!" there was a third option.
And that option is quite the obvious one.
The positive thing about chat, is having people to chat with.
That kind of cancels out when there will be less people chatting because not everyone wants to spend $3.00
for a human right on a game.

I don't even know why we still have to pay for chat, they've censored every bad word and then some. If they're losing money, they should start introducing block packs to strictly pay for.
Everyone capable of chatting would be awful.
Imagine the people making the "EX PRO MINECRAFT" levels being able to speak.
Levels with 45 people would have flooded chat, no one able to talk.
Why not just remove this "Buy chat"?
Some1 of the EE programmers could simply add a button like: "Allow chat" and "Disallow Chat" ( = multe button for everyone)
That can solve the problem, alse the Beta costs and chat.
The word filters are good enought to let kids chat.

Clearly someone didn't read the 'Editor's note'.

The reason They made it $3 Isn't because they are "Greedy", It is because both that they need verification that an adult/parent knows your playing EE plus the fact that the adult thinks they can trust you with chat and that Paypal and other people thought of this as being a scam due to it being 1 cent! so they had to make it 3 dollars so stop thinking they are "Cheap".
Woah woah, the chat rose to $3? When? That's dumb.
As for the shared thing being a 'decent reason', it's not. Even if, Chris hated the shared account thing to hell. Julian cares just as much as other moderators.
@Arceus: Lol, +rep for the epic sarcasm there.
Anyways, I'm glad that when I got chat it was when it was included with beta.
Didn't they make it this way so children can't get chat unless their parents allow them to?
Explanation: You can get beta for free via TPOs, and anyone can get it. The reason why chat costs actual money instead of Gems is so that people under 18 can't get it unless their parents allow them to. That would defeat the while purpose of chat costing actual money. Just sayin'.
