Everybody Edits

As a long time player of everybody edits , I have seen this game grow like a child. Starting out simple and small, an easy sandbox with no objective. Into something large and complex, into something unrecognizable. The definition of Everybody Edits may vary from person to person, because everyone has had their own personal experiences with the game. Answers may range from just a simple time waster, to something that has influenced your life in a way far deeper than intended.

You know what I think the definition of Everybody Edits is? Fun.

Now, fun is a relative term, because it's one of those things that again, varies from person to person, but it is that definition of fun that defines your view on the game of Everybody Edits, what do you think is "fun"?

For example, many users should know that I quite enjoy to troll. Trolling is my "fun", but this topic is not to discuss my habits of playing (whether they be good or bad.)

As of late there have been multiple updates which has seemed to rock the community at it's very core, and not in a good way. It has seemed that Chris (not Julian) has taken the game in a direction that seems "unexpected". Many people seem surprised, which comes off to me as unusual, because here is why.

Since the beginning of EE there has only been one goal. To have fun. But what does is take to have fun? Blocks? Smileys? Other users? This answer will very, depending on ones definition of fun. Trends lately seem to show having lots of items is considered "fun", and probably it is because of this that Chris has made it so there are weekly updates to keep people more interested in the game.

With the most recent update, many users have had their items taken away from them because they do not have the "proper level" to obtain them.

Well let me say this. I am most definitely not going to agree with Chris on this decision, because you should not force people to play a game. In fact, the first version of the game had no purpose whatsoever, and now it seems the purpose is to "get all the stuff", and "play all the time", and spend spend spend!

As quoted by one of my favorite authors Conor Kostick:

Conor Kostick wrote:

Consume more. It is the measure of your life.

But as we should know, this is not true.

Now. In my personal opinion, I don't play the game to have lots of fancy items, or to show off my worlds, or pretend like I'm better than everyone else. I play because when I am immersed in the game I am met with a wonderful community of (mostly) kind players who want to have fun. It seems each time I am on I am greeted to a new adventure in which I explore the game in a way I had not before.

I do not play the game to be popular, or to be number one. I play the game to have fun. To chat, to troll, to build, to spread kindness, to make friendships, and to enjoy myself. And even if that sounds sappy it's true.

We don't need lots of things to make us happy, and I think it is ridiculous to quit playing just because you do not like the updates. I won't say the updates have been the best, and I most definitely think that several of them are unfair, but should we let this uproot out community? No.

The best way to solve a problem is to speak up for yourself. POST on the blog, EMAIL MrShoe. TALK to the mods when they are on. Let them know that there is a problem and we NEED to do something about it.

Because when you give up, when you leave and never return, do you really expect the game to get any better?

EE to me is more than a game. It's a community, and my friends are like family (no matter how crude we may be) and I won't give up just because of a few bad updates. If we want this situation to change we need to let the mods know.

EE is not about spending money. EE is not about having all the things. EE is about making levels, and having fun.

Thank you very much! I have decided to remove my reputation, because I have had problems in the past with rep trolls. So I just avoid it all together.

Re: Everybody Edits

Wait wait.. you don't pretend that you're better than others you say, yet call yourself a veteran as if you're some hero who fought in a war.   Ermm.. no, you're just a normal player who found out about the game before a lot of others.

I sent MrShoe an e-mail a couple hours ago, explaining the problem of the recent update and the new magic system, how a lot of people are playing for magic now instead of fun, and with the smiley locks, well that doesn't help..

I don't mind the new packs, but the game changing updates as of late.. such as Woots, Magic Class, Smiley Lock, and Bulders Club/Beta Removal, have subtracted from the game, I think.   The negatives outweigh the positives with these updates.

Woots: People like your level and it gets bumped up the list.   Newbies don't know what woots are and will woot a level that has a trophy placed at the beginning because they don't know what that means.

Magic Class: Players are awarded for playing.   However people mostly don't want to play a level with very few, hard to get coins.   Coins need to be easy to get, and all over the place.   People play to level up, and not for fun.   See world names such as "WOOT LEVEL UP," "LVL UP HERE," "EASY MAGIC," and etc.

Beta Removal: No positives.. people want Beta and Beta only and are willing to pay for it, but can't.   Denial of service because Chris wants you to get the more expensive Builders Club now, and for people like me, who have most blocks, have no need for that, even if it was cheaper.

Smiley Lock: I understand that unlockables can be a cool thing, but people who had these smilies already had them taken away.   Some people PAID for these.

Other than the above, which is excluding a lot, EE is doing just fine.   Including them, well.. EE's falling down.

Dictionary.com wrote:

Veteran- a person who has had long service or experience in an occupation, office, or the like

I only used the word to emphasize the rest of what followed my statement. One cannot complain about the goings on of the game if they had only joined yesterday, but I feel as a "veteran" player than I have more of a right to make a statement because I understand what all the other "veteran" players are going through. I would consider a veteran player pretty much anyone who has been playing since 2010.

But when you hear the word used, how is it used normally?   Also, what I said still stands

I played back in 2010 and I'm just a normal player.   I think long-time player would have been more accurate, veteran, which is often associated to those who fought in war, makes you sound like you're putting yourself above others, yet later you say you don't pretend to do so.

And I think everyone has a say for their opinion even if they joined today.   You don't need to play a game for two years to see its flaws.   Especially when the flaws weren't present back then.

Re: Everybody Edits

What I meant, was that if a player were to join today, or even within the last month, they would not probably understand the issues as much as some players who have been playing for a long time.

A new player, who has not played before woots, magic, BC, energy etc... was released would not understand why it is such a big deal. I do not mean to say that I am better than that newer player, moreover my views are expressed differently because I understand more about the evolution of the game. (Because personally I enjoyed the game much more when we just got the updates every week, no energy, no gems.)

Also if the word "veteran" bothers you so much I'll just replace it with something else.

That's awesome Strider! See I think the main problem is, the forumers only make up a very small part of the total EE community, and seems that it is generally the forumers who care more about the issues, rather than the non forumers. Although, there are some people who post on the blog that don't use the forums, but other than that I guess I just mean, you can assume someone who has played longer will know more about the game. It is possible to do research on the game, but I doubt that many users would go to all the trouble. However you have clearly proved that some users do, which is awesome! Still though you are probably only part of a small percent of people, of people who cared to research the game and it's history.

I hope that kind of make more sense...

I don't know how many emails Julian has read, but he's responded to me several times. Most of the time though I only send letters asking questions. He answers my questions email. But once in a while I send a complaint, and he doesn't answer back.

I know it may seem futile but it never hurts to try.

Yeah you could make a legitimate death threat towards him and he'd respond:

Re: Everybody Edits

As a lot of know from time to time bad situations like these have occurred where there is a bad update in which most of the population disagrees with. Most of the times the game just went on. Every time there's a new update that can change the whole game entirely we must adapt. But I don't think this one will slide. It is very unfair that we can't use smileys that we have already and went through to get. I think we should change and Mr. Shoe/Void/Whoever should accept what the crowd wants!

Re: Everybody Edits

This update doesn't make much sense in the terms of MrShoe and Benjaminsen's money-making scheme, unless a payed way to level up is on the way. This, this, would get on my nerves, which, through all these useless updates and "game-ruiners", has never happened. If this happens, I would go to Chris' house and shoot him. Well, maybe his second-favorite teddy bear. If I can find his house. Or not.

Getting back on track here, Everybody Edits used to be a fun game that was made for fun in the first place, not as a "business venture". Sure, I understand that it costs a lot to run a game powered by Player.IO or whatever it is, but certainly not as much as the EE team is raking in from all this. I'm not saying this as flaming, but someone who'd rather make themselves rich than make the 1000+ people who regularly play this game might just be a huge jerk. If I were them, I would make some things loaded into the game/obtainable by energy instead of "paid".

If you'll let me go on a little tangent here, let's look at Mr. Krabs. Yes, Mr. Krabs. From Spongebob. He's a bit like Chris. His whole life is for money, and he'll do just about anything for a quick buck. And yet everyone loves him. Then there's Squidward. He's the "Face of the Krusty Krab", and he really has no concern for money (or the customer), just his own personal intrests. This is like MrShoe; the face of EE, but not really making any of the main descisions. And all of the Krusty Krab customers hate Squidward. Make sense much? Nope.

I realize that this is turning into a long rant by my standards, and it isn't my topic to rant in, but I just want to get this off my back. That is all.

Yea, I really think EE should change and get rid of RPG altogether. It'd literally be alot more fun trying to get blocks and smileys rather than struggle to keep using them. MrShoe already knows people didn't like RPG. Yet he insists moving along with it? Ugh. Great post by the way. I myself have played since 2010 (Mostly as a guest). Now I want to see EE change for the better. (This is literally the only update I've thought of as bad without looking at the forums recently) Though I'm not saying MrShoe is doing a bad job. His ideas are actually creative in a way. But I don't think he's going to drop this considering the time and effort he has put into making it anyways. (The graphics, coding, etc). Anyway, I had a good read. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile Just as long as blocks don't get locked I'll be playing and unlocking. Have fun everyone! I hope! //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

Even though this is most likely the case, unless a person has actual proof of an EE Moderator stating how much money it costs to run player.io compared to how much money Chris is making, I can only assume that Chris being greedy is just an excuse made by players to lower the price of premium content.

NOW, I'm not saying that the premium content isn't overpriced, but the fact is I just don't know why. I don't know how much money Chris makes off of just EE, or what he does with that money. I have tried asking Julian, but Julian will not answer those sorts of questions. I can only hope that my money goes toward future developments of the game.

I do agree with the latest trend, that this weeks update was completely unfair. Not one person has anything to gain from this, us nor Chris, and so I do not know why this feature was implemented. I am crossing my fingers the mods come to their senses and remove this ridiculous feature next Wednesday.

I agree. EE should be more of a sandbox like it used to be, and less of a competition like it is now. Personally I think I wouldn't mind all the horrible block packs, if in exchange there was no woots, or levels. That way everything would be fair game.
