Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

GlobalBan-Project

Hi you all,

as you probably all know are there many sites that offer shared accounts for Everybodyedits.com and even beta.Everybodyedits.com. I don't want to have shared accounts in my world especially because you can never know if the account is now used by a troller or by someone you already got to know. So I thought about how to prevent those accounts from spawning in my worlds or even in worlds of others. I thought of somekind of GlobalBan-Bot that loads all shared account usernames from a mysql server and if one of those accounts joins a world where the bot is online it simply kick it. Now I wanted to ask you all if this´d be good and helpful or simply useless. Maybe it would help the moderators a bit.

Re: GlobalBan-Project

Yeah. Basically it's not limited to your world.

I've had this idea before, but haven't gone through with it. Mainly because, what if someone bans the room owner? :O
Or other people who aren't trolls?

Re: GlobalBan-Project

@hummerz5: Well, to solve this problem I thought of a review if the account is really shared. If enough proves exist the account will get banned. And to avoid the situation of people getting banned that did NOT troll there´s a warning system and after a given time period the user will get unbanned again. And I´d also have to db that could be used for storing the banlist.

Eye of the beholder. If people trust your system enough to let it have control over who enters the room, then yep.

That´s true, first of all people will need to open the project. But many world builders said they´d be glad if something like this´d exist. I'll create it and later I'll look how the people use it.

Re: GlobalBan-Project

Memylo once created the same type of project almost a year ago. It failed to get enough attention and he abandoned it.

Now to be honest, isn't it the task of EE moderators to ban shared accounts? It is against the terms and so they should worry about it.
There are so many restrictions for accounts (kick when logged in from another PC) and I don't see shared accounts as a huge problem.

For other types of bans: I'm totally against globally banning people who hack and spam in your worlds. It is a lot of responsibility and the chance that you ban someone as a result of mistake is very high. Judging about people is very hard... Are we going to trust that you will ban the real toxic players? Will you give people a second chance or will you just ban them forever no matter if they improve or not?

The Idea of the bot is nice, but making it work without people complaining all the time will be near impossible.

I have never thought of programming for reputation and honor. What I have in my heart must come out. That is the reason why I code.

Re: GlobalBan-Project

@Processor: First of all thank you for your ideas. I thought of it and I think I could seperate the global ban list into seperate modules so the people are not globally banned but banned from one group (like banned from crew worlds). And you´re right: Actually it´s a task of the moderators because sharing accounts is against the rules they wroten themselves. So acutally they should do that job not players. I'll rewrite this project so crews can ban people from their very own worlds and they´ll have to judge about the trollers, sharers, etc.. But there will be a global-feature anyways: The crews can share their banlists or I could create a "ranking-list" of often banned people (every banlist in which a player is banned only increases the player´s "how often banned" counter by one), so the crews´ll get warned of some (maybe) nasty trollers. I hope this is a better idea.
