Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I just... I cannot even... I should have taken a picture...

So someone in this art level I was in was making a portrait. Now, she was doing it pixel by pixel, but you could tell by the design she was copying an autobuilt picture of perler bead copy from somewhere. So I accused her of using a bot, and she told me she wasn't. She told me she found a picture, zoomed in really really close, and then copied the picture pixel by pixel.
-
Now, I'm no legal professional, but I'm pretty sure that's copying, and stealing at that. She copied the picture PIXEL by PIXEL. So I told her that's copying, and she told me it's not copying and it's the only way she can make real art. So I told her, why don't you practice then? You can copy a picture, but you won't truly understand how to draw something. So then her and her friend ganged up on me. By this point, everyone else in the level was defending this idiot, saying she makes wonderful art and it's totally ok to copy. So I stepped back for a moment. I said, look I don't mean to sound mean, but you're wasting your time. Copying won't help you get better at art, and besides the fact it's stealing someone else's work (as she originally claimed she made all her art on her own.)
-
So then everyone in the level started accusing me of stealing, as I was drawing a Fangfish. Now, I use references, but I would never draw anything pixel by pixel. I try my best to the proper shading by looking with my eyes not copying it exactly. So finally I just got ****, trolled her art (my art as well, because it would have got trolled anyways) and left.

To all the newbs/noobs. Copying an EE smiley, overused sprite, a photo pixel by pixel, or autobuilding/animating art is NOT original art. You should ALWAYS give credit to the original, and do NOT take credit for making it on your own. Copying art does not help you understand drawing, it helps you understand how to copy drawing. Real understanding comes through years of practice and observation, even I have still have a lot to learn. If you really want to be good at art though, you should practice practice practice, and not copy or cheat. And if you see someone else copying give them the same advice, because a real artist interprets images in their own unique way, not copies them directly.
I know, i makes nothing of art, but its better dont do no art than copy art, good topic. +rep if you allow we change reputation.

I agree. If you can't make art then make something else. We all are good at something. I know some players who make fun minis, but suck at art. Others make cool bots, but can't make art. EE is not all art. No reason to waste time copying things, nothing to be gained from it. Also I don't need rep, but thanks anyways.
bwwaaaahhahahahahahahahahaahahha!! who copies a picture pixel by pixel?

Her in game name is Bethy.

Here is her profile: http://everybodyedits.com/profiles/?/bethy

If she really copied all those pictures pixel by picture like she claimed, she wasted a serious amount of time.
Oh, that art contest thing? That girl. Lol that art wasn't that good either
Copying pictures pixel by pixel is torturous.

bahahaahha I can't believe people can actually be this stupid!
also i saw you afk in that level, kool stuff
I agree with this. Some people don't seem to understand that they shouldn't just steal other people's creations and ideas because they just "like them," or in the case above, not confident in their own skills.
Similarly, it is annoying when I create a small piece of art in one of those worlds and newbs flock in around it to take a screenie and copy it to other worlds.

People do that? Oh my gosh haha.... I rarely make art in other world only because of frequent trolls. Still, the few times I do people usually like it because it's different from all the copied things that are made everywhere else. But yea...

You're telling me  and thanks

Wow, next to some of the art on her profile it says how long she spent. 3 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours... The funny thing is, you could make those without copying the picture and only take 1 hour, or less.
thx for sig bobithan

Well it's really stupid of her to waste all that time copying a picture pixel by pixel. She mine as well take auotbuilder and build it in less than 5 minutes.
Wow, 4 hours to make a small pixel art face - such slow, much crappyness, wow.
Thank you eleizibeth ^

I think this speaks volumes about our current EE art community, (If you can't see the picture properly, the art is just giant versions of the normal EE blocks)
And the worst part is, NO ONE agreed with me that this was bad art... sometimes I feel like I'm fighting a battle I'll never win.
EDIT:
And then this happened xD (he kicked other player instead of me...)
EDIT: I'm just gonna stop now... I really have better things to do. Mine as well add one last tidbit though.

I just don't understand... Like... how does one get off thinking stealing is a proper form of art? Heck, I don't like JR2's adventure levels, but even though they aren't that great at least he trys to put some originality in them. I think I make good art, but because I troll, no one gives a care. And so apparently if you're nice you make good art? And if your mean you make bad art? And if your criticize any other players art it makes you a hater? Sounds like America to me...

The average person who plays EE (from what I know) is an elementary student. If you tell them they are wrong, they defend themselves with illegitimate arguments (like in the kick message above). I don't see copying art a bad thing if the artist uses it to study techniques of another, but just copying it without learning and calling it your own... I don't think that is art: it goes against the definition of art.
1. The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
2. The various branches of creative activity...
In fact, I found a definition that fits their "art."
Plagiarism:
1. The practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.
If I still played ee, this topic would make me quit. There's just no reasoning with them, is there?

Even if i do agree with you on mostly everything, copying an artwork pixel by pixel can increase your skill substantially.
When i started EE, a couple of years ago, i started doing misc art (similarily to how and what GKA is drawing, but much worse) and original spritepixel art i made on the spot (not copying any videogame characters or stuff). Then i decided to copy a small pixel artwork (a 5 colors wolf) pixel by pixel to see where will it lead me. It was a pain in the ****, and a very frustrating work, but i managed to do a big part of it.
The point is that, ehile doing most of that wolf's head, i managed to learn a lot about alias, contrast, shading, minimalism, shaping, sketching and proportions. At first i wasn't aware of that, but my skill amizingly increased after that experience, managing to draw stuff in my head much more clearly, then put in on EE.
After that, i switched from copying to redoing, and practicing using the technique of overdrawing. Also i started analyzing other people's work, especially ravatroll, and later, the girl who became my indirect mentor, boh.
I learned so much and i became one of the best artists out there (according to other people, i'm not bragging, i still have a poopload to learn imo).

I explained my reasoning to Bethy about 3-4 times, I explained in precise terms why copying a picture pixel by pixel is not art. Not only did she think I was lying, but all her friends thought I was a nooby jealous thief as well.
-
Now, I'll still make art regardless of what people think, but I'm not just making this topic to solely point out the trolls. As I have said in topics past, and also have used to justify trolling, that old phrase "Monkey see, monkey do." If, the people we look up to are amateurs, and we strive to be like amateurs, than the next generation will be worse than amateurs. We can only judge what is best by comparing how different people are different from each other. So lets say we make a scale, Boh being 10 (Best) and Bethy being 0 (Worst), one could make a judgement.
-
Now, we also have to take into consideration, while Boh is one of EE's best artist, I don't tend to see her guest bombing levels with her art often, nor do I see her making art in other worlds as often. Bethy may be more or less active which can skew the judgement, but nonetheless. If we compare the two, one can easily see Boh is better. However, say you have never seen a level by Boh, and the only levels you have to judge are levels by Bethy of TheCliviks. If, the latter are people newbs look up to as idols, it would make sense why the art community is getting worse and worse.
-
Also, to be fair, making nice art takes a very long time. In my opinion it's not the best idea to create gorgeous art solely with EE, because it is a childrens game. Yesterday I make art in a level, (I don't have the link), but I drew a fangfish, waterfall, rocks etc... only a tiny portion of a level and it took me 2 hours at least. And no one is going to really remember it, except for the few left who know how to appreciate good art when they see it. I don't go out of my way though to make art to inspire others, as EE is a dying game.
-
So yea, I did make this topic partially to point out the fact that the quality of good art has greatly been lowered, but also to kinda say, really? Is this all we are? I remember back in EE's Hay day when Crews were making pro levels left and right, but now it's dwindled to a dedicated few, and it's rare to see a finished world larger than a large or wide world. Still, I have seen similar issues in other places on the internet (I will always resent people who gain fame through their fan-art/fiction, and furries etc...), it's BS. But, whatcha gonna do? If people lie to themselves enough and say that bad art is good art, eventually that lie becomes a truth.

He means he copying art from a image, you can zoom the image and see which color is used, then you find a block with almost same color and go copying it. Or in worst situations, they can come to a art world and copy the art.
