Should I buy a Builder Club membership with money or gems?

I've heard a few people in some worlds making the wrong choice when it comes to buying a Builder Club membership (getting one in the first place is a wrong choice)

As it stands:
1 month : $5 or 110 Gems [sale]
3 months : $30 or 300 Gems
6 months : $54 or 540 Gems
12 months : $96 or 960 Gems
A first look at it shows it's $1 ? 10Gems

In the gem shop
50 Gems = $5        ($1 ? 10 Gems)
105 Gems = $10 ($1 ? 10.5 Gems)
220 Gems = $20 ($1 ? 11 Gems)

So surely it's a clear choice to buy Gems and use those as you get a better value ($1 ? 11 Gems, 11 Gems ? $1.10)?

Exactly, with the exception of the 1 month subscription at current sale price.

1 Month
Money: $5
Gems ($15): +45 (1x50 + 1x105)

3 Months
Money: $30
Gems: +25 (1x105 + 1x220)

6 Months
Money: $54
Gems ($50):   +5 (2x220 + 1x105)

12 Months
Money: $96
Gems ($90): +25 (4x220 + 1x105)
But wait!

The 1 month is on sale right? Why not buy a load of them - good point.

Lets compare Gem to 1 Month subscriptions

3 Months
Gems: $30
Subs: $15

6 Months
Gems: $50
Subs: $30

12 Months
Gems: $90
Subs: $60

=

So if you are going to get a Builder Club membership - don't buy gems or even the subscription you want (unless it is just 1 month) and get enough 1 month subscriptions to fit your desires. (Or don't get one, they're expensive - wait for a sale, got 12 months for $32)

I understand most of you already know this but I have overheard people talking about how they bought a one year subscription for $96 when they could have got it for $60.
