Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Foreword
It has come to the attention of the EE Cemetery Commission that many contests have not succeeded. It is their pleasure to announce a review of the previous contests, and steps they will take to assure this success of the new contest.
In the first section, the failed contests will be reviewed. In the second section, the successful completed contests will be reviewed. In the third section, the pros and cons of all the contests will be summarized into simple lists. The third section will also contain the final verdicts of the EE Cemetery Commission members. In the fourth section, the rules and details of this contest will be announced.
Once all of the contest reviews are completed, the final draft of the rules will be announced with the verdicts of each of the EE Cemetery Commision members. Depending on the final verdicts on Everybody Edits contests, the contest may be canceled due to the impossibility to succeed as an event.
Other people looking to host a contest may use the information in this topic to better their contests. This is for the good of Everybody Edits.
If you want an additional contest to be reviewed, you may make a post with a link to the contest's topic.
The EE Cemetery Commission understands that this is a large project that may take many weeks. Time will likely be stressed in preparation to this contest to ensure success. Every possibility will be considered, and every precaution will be covered. Please understand.

This contest was hosted by Shift.
Important quotes from page and notes on them:
Shift wrote:In an effort to encourage the community to come up with fresh ideas and own the Featured section, I have decided to host another contest. FYI, I'm not a fan of reps; I prefer giving gems.
The name of the topic is a reply to MrShoe's limiting open worlds and another challenge I saw which similarly limits you. Therefore, I require that you use facets of the game from every era-- you don't need to use everything, but you should use a wide range.
Another bonus of entering this contest is that I will offer a detailed critique of every submission. I will nitpick, but that shouldn't be a problem for such a talented forum.
The goal of this contest was to inspire people to be as creative as possible, using as many blocks as possible. The prize is gems. An important note is the critique offered for each team's world.
Shift wrote:Rules:
1. The level must contain items from throughout EE's history.
2. The level must be in a great, massive, or tall world.
3. You may enter as a team of no more than 5, and you may divide the prize you receive however you wish.
4. You must submit your entry by the time I post the cut off on April 14th, 2013.
5. The submission must appear as follows:
Level Name
Screenshot of the Minimap (with link inside the image)
Team Name
Team Members
6. You must send me a pm with a link to the level(s) you plan to use prior to your building. This is to assure that it's a new level. The rules promote creativity and variety with blocks. The world sizes are limited to great massive and tall. Team member maximum is five. Time available was a little over a month. Preventative measure against submission of old worlds manifests as presentng the level link beforehand.
Shift wrote:Prizes:
-There will be one Grand Prize of $10 worth of gems.
-There will be two Honorable Mentions of $5 worth of gems.
*In order to receive your prize, you must give me temporary access to your account. I will not simply credit a PayPal account, or anything of the sort, with the money. MrShoe respects this process.
*I reserve the right to retain the prizes based on behavior or poor submissions.
*Since MrShoe got rid of the gem sales under $5, splitting a prize among a team may prove difficult. SuperRewards provides a less than ideal workaround, and so I will have to talk to any teams.Prize in gems.
Shift wrote:Shift's Tips:
1. It's important to make a good first impression; I value art highly.
2. If I get trapped, then I can't play the level.
3. **** off the judge probably isn't a good idea.
4. There is no limit to the number of worlds you can use...Art is important. Traps will likely give level a bad rating? Promotes world portal use?
Later in topic:
Shift wrote:I'm sorry I was absent for a few days... if another absence occurs I will likely extend the deadline.
Deadline extended due to absence.
Shift wrote:Okay guys, we have a bit of a problem: there are only six teams. That isn't such a bad number, but I don't expect all six to actually submit. Unfortunately, having three prizes for, say, three entries is just wrong, and so I may get rid of an honorable mention. I'll wait until I see how many entries I get, but you should know this is a possibility.
Possible issue in changing rules after contest has been started. It may be better to have prepared rules in the case of problems.
The contest was judged by Shift.
After this several people resigned due to not being able to finish the world in time, and then there were several requests to extend the deadline. I do not recall what happened, but I believe the forums may have gone down around this time - the contest was never finished.

-Reps may no longer be valued as a currency due to the fact that reputation has been disabled on the forums.
-It may do well to be very explicit and detailed in describing the compliance needed with the theme, so that there is no confusion over how far people can stray from the theme.
-Enough time alloted to contestants is of the greatest importance.
-Just as a general note on judges, judges need to be trustworthy to do a good job in reviewing levels.
-Perhaps allow even more members per group to ensure the progress of levels, keeping in mind the small number of teams participating, we cannot allow any to not submit levels.
-Some possible issues in preventing cheating in the form of uploading previously made levels or important art that would appear as if it was created on Everybody Edits.

-Creativity is valued.
-Gems are a good incentive for people to participate in a contest.
-World portals used for linking multiple levels into an even larger world contain a lot of potential.
-Critiques are great ways to improve the community and provide incentive to participate in a contest.
-World sizes limited to the largest sizes can ensure equal footing when judging levels?
-Should traps be allowed in worlds?
-Forums going down is a possibility that needs to be looked into.
-Steps need to be taken to ensure activity of the contest so that it will not simply die.

That contest was more successful than I had anticipated, as I was the only judge if everyone had submitted a world the scores would have likely clashed.
