Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

The Official Unofficial Forums Guide to Bot .NET Frameworks

Hi, have you ever tried to install a bot and it turns out, you don't have the right version of .NET installed?
Have you ever wondered what all this .NET fibble fabble is about?

Well, I'm here with the Official Unofficial Forums Guide to Bot .NET Frameworks!

The .NET Framework is a framework that runs on Microsoft Windows.
When a bot maker creates a bot, their computer turns it into CIL ( Common Intermediate Language ) code, which "is the lowest-level of human readable programming language defined by the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) specification and is used by the .NET Framework and Mono." -Wikipedia [5]. This is the very basic instructions of what the bot maker's bot is. When you run it, your OS turns CIL into CLR ( Common Language Runtime ), which then "manages the execution of .NET programs. A process known as just-in-time compilation converts compiled code into machine instructions which the computer's CPU then executes." -Wikipedia [4]. After all of this happens, the .NET Framework takes control, and runs your application. This is how a bot maker's bot works.
When the bot maker creates a bot, they also choose what .NET Framework version to use. This .NET Framework that they use can only support a certain specification of operating systems.
So when you go to run a bot, and you don't have the right .NET version, the bot cannot run, because the .NET Framework for that specific version, cannot run it.

Bot Makers - Change .NET Framework

If you're having trouble running a bot, you need to check the .NET Framework version it requires. A compiled list of the compatible Microsoft Windows Operating Systems is located below, along with downloads to each one. [1]

Downloading a specific .NET version
To download a .NET framework from here, it's very easy.
Just open the spoiler to the .NET framework, and then click on ".NET x.x", which will get you to the download.
If you don't know what to do, use the { Download it for me! } feature. It gives you a direct download, and you don't have to right click -> open in new tab.

.NET 2.0
.NET 3.0
.NET 3.5
.NET 4.0
.NET 4.5
.NET 4.5.2

Sadly, this guide is only going to .NET 4.5.2, and I'd like some community contributions to ensure that I'm correct about the OSes these .NET frameworks can run on and download links, and explanations and such is right.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

tl;dr: criticize me pls, even about the tiniest of things
Please do criticize, even about the tiniest of spelling and grammatical errors! (but politely if possible? please?) I know a lot of this information will perhaps be false, incorrect, not accurate, not accurate as could be, indirect, e.t.c e.t.c, and I'd like some community contributions to ensure that I'm correct, and whatever is wrong can be fixed.

Mods, can you sticky this? This "Official Unofficial" guide can be made official if that'd happen //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/big_smile

If you guys could help contribute to this that'd be great!

The only thing wrong with this that I can see is that it hadn't existed yet. This is quite a valuable resource.

After approximately a long time of being idle...
I've finally found the time, energy, and inspiration to begin...
Announcing...
the long-awaited sequal..
with an actual GUI...
event-based system instead of threads...
..nope never mind out of inspiration. I'll be back in another month or two.
It's here: LuaBot 2.0! (Hopefully we fixed that missing DLL problem)

I use Mono on linux and with some of my games (Unity requires mono so that would fall under most of my games, so does MonoGame, but most of my MonoGame games require .NET dlls so sometimes...)
