Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Quick Rules Question

This is a random question that I thought of...

If someone minimods

and someone says "don't minimod"

is the second person a minimod for telling them not to minimod?

Re: Quick Rules Question

Yep.

And adding more words that don't add anything to the topic just so it's not technically a one word post is still basically a one word post.

And at some point we may adopt the original forumify's "replying to spam is spam" rule because that's been a problem lately.

Re: Quick Rules Question

PMing someone they broke a rule also counts as mini-modding?

(This topic is about mini-modding, right?)

This is a false statement.

Yeah, your should not PM someone telling them that they broke a rule. Just report it and let a mod take care of it.

Yeah, your should not PM someone telling them that they broke a rule. Just report it and let a mod take care of it.

But it shouldn't matter because why would you try enforcing that for PMs.

Re: Quick Rules Question

Because users aren't mods and could very easily spread misinformation about the rules, complicating or job a lot.

Re: Quick Rules Question

Okay, then how would you enforce it? Unless the mods can look at everyone's PMs.

Re: Quick Rules Question

We can.

Sort of.

To allow us to enforce rules in PMs, we can view PM conversations as long as somebody gives us a link to it. We can't just go browsing people's PMs. If somebody breaks a rule in a PM, report any post of theirs with a link to the offending PM.

Re: Quick Rules Question

What is considered a link to a PM? Is it the URL of the page when viewing a message? Is so, would it be theoretically possible for you to view random PMs by typing some numbers into forums.everybodyedits.com/pms_view.php? … &mid=#####?
Not that I have any problems, just curious.

Obligatory piece of text placed here forcing you to load an extra 100 bytes of data per post I make.

Yes, that's what a PM link is. Yes, we can view PMs just by typing in a random tid (thread ID). You would expect that the mid (message id) would be checked to make sure it exists in the thread ID but as far as I can tell the mid field is completely useless and is only checked to make sure it exists, its not validated at all. I intend to fix this atnsome point.

Keep in mind that even when this is fixed, a motivated Different55 can still log into the database and get a list of every PM you've ever sent or received if he has a reason. For example, if someone PMs me telling that there's a history of someone sending them abusive PMs, I'll probably read through all PM exchanges between the two instead of asking for links to everything. Private messages aren't private, they're just not public. And rules don't stop existing in them.
