Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

While i think this update was a good decision, i find 3$ for chat is a little too expensive.
This chat payment is meant to verify if you are above 18 or if your parents allow you to chat. It was not meant to be an expensive add-on.
I suggest to MrShoe that the payment should be 0.01$ like it was before.
This issue is not a trouble for me in particular as i bought chat when it cost 0.01$, but some people have asked me to post this suggestion here for others to see.

I agree, although I've heard people have had trouble with 1 cent chat in the past. Back when it was the only way to get chat people complained about it. But in any case, $3 is certainly too expensive.

$3 is not expensive because you also get 50 gems, but that's not the point.
Chat shouldn't cost at all, chat should be free. I was trying to explain to Goeyfun earlier. When chat first came out it costs money. Why? Because the EE moderation was short on staffers to moderate the chat. Then for some idiotic reason when Shoe left for his 'vacation' he made chat available to all for free. This was a horrible deicision considering no one would monitor the game for months to come.
So finally after months of drought we get the guardians who are supposed to sort out chat and general issues within the game. All of a sudden chat costs $3 again. I realize this game had been in transition from one person to another, but the amount of forethought here is horrendous. If....
> Guardians are implemented to maintain chat
> Chat should be free
or
> If Guardians were not implemented, and staffers don't moderate well
> Chat should cost money.
but, now chat is turned off for all who did not pay for it which it absurd. Especially now when there are at least 4 people to moderate it. It's not even like the EE population is all that large.

$3 does also get you 50 gems, with 1 cent it cost Cape/Chris 3 cents so they increased the amount to something less fishy and also so they didn't lose money if hundreds of thousand accounts were to join. It also gets players hooked on gems.
Thank you eleizibeth ^

I don't want the gems, gems are too expensive, we don't need get gem for getting chat, but we have to get chat.
This is a false statement.

Previous chat update.
Chris:
I very much agree that a system where children have to ask their parents for their credit card is fare from optimal. It is however the only secure option I have been able to find so far. I have been looking into other age verification systems but so far I have found nothing.
I am aware that kids are exposed to swearing and abuse all over, I just don't want this to be the case in Everybody Edits.
Ohh and, there would be no need to have any form of verification if it was enough to just allow people to turn it off.
alex:
I think an effective alternative would be to DISABLE chat for 1 cent.
IE: parent gets mad, does that, chat is disabled, and it can be reenabled for 1 cent.
This way people with unattentive parents who don't give a crap aren't chatless, or people with relaxed parents that don't want to give money are also can still have chat.
Chris:
Since I consider it a great responsability that parents trusts their children to be safe in Everybody Edits, I’ve decided to add a simple Parental Control system to the game.
However, since most parental control systems are easily circumvented by a 10 year old in 5 minutes or less I have decided to implement it a bit differently in Everybody Edits.
In the very near future the game will be updated such that people wishing to chat must pay 0.01$ (1 cent) for the privilege using a Credit Card via PayPal.
The reason is that you must be 18 to have a credit card (or a PayPal account) and it is therefore reasonable to assume that only adults will buy the chat-feature and kids will have to ask their parents for chat access.
I’d like to point out that I am not making any money from this, as 1 cent is well below the fees charged by PayPal everytime somebody verifies chat. Additionally Player.IO charge me 0.03$ per transaction making the verification system something that costs me money.
To get the point out of these quotes, using credit card to paypal isn't a lot of money... 18-year-olds consider $3 not a lot especially if you also receive $5 gems extra.
Second of all I would like to add is abuse. No, Guardians are not gods, they cannot see problems in every world. Limiting chat further expands security into the realm of chatting. EE is for age groups of 10+. Because a lot of players are 9, 10, 11, abuse can be very conflicting and sharp. Of course Guardians will protect segments of problems dealing with chat. Unfortunately not everyone's problems will be resolved. Limiting chat further enhances the safety of children and sensitive groups to abuse and conflict.

There's no age restriction on getting a paypal account - you just need an email and you're sorted, go to one of those survey places that give you $1 for signing up, do that 3 times and you've got chat.
Thank you eleizibeth ^

I'm 16 and I didn't know that. Though. PayPal really just pushes you to have a credit card lol. "your profile isn't complete without a credit card!"
Guys, boycott the $3 chat by sending $3 in the mail requesting chat. They'll be so tired of all the letters and useless foreign money that they'll finally give in! /hopes

I only need chat on 10 of the accounts - but spending $30 on something that says "<username> you have <wins> wins!" is pointless.

A quick meal at McDonald's costs around ~$4. Why would $3 be expensive?

It's more the "you must have a credit card, list your address, phone number blah blah blah" (or at least that is on the Australian way to buy it) than the $3 required

Chris is very much wrong about the transaction.
You must be an adult to register for a Paypal account.
However, you don't need to be an adult to buy a prepaid credit card.
So you can walk in to a store near you, give them money (allowance?) and walk out with a prepaid Mastercard or prepaid Visa that you can enter into Paypal without an account.
Also, Paypal does not require a valid address or phone, nor does it have any age verification process.
So, in other words, it's utterly useless, other than to **** people off.
*u stinky*

You can register a Paypal account being under 18, I made my first at age 12 and there's no limit on how many you have - no need to connect a card nor a bank (transactions have to be small though <£50)
