Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Bots.
Unnecessary (yet convenient) nuisances on Everybody Edits.
Some bots are fine. Some bots are not fine.
For example:
Le cyph1e's snake bot = original, creative
Your ghetto version of snake bot is a piece of crap.
So why do the non-programmers have this urge to start learning a programming language?
The answer is simple. Popularity!
Popularity is what every kid wants. It's like a feeling of "Yes! 3 and 1/2 people added me on facebook!"
So the point is, if you're gonna make a bot--And don't get me wrong, I love bots and am totally fine with the concept of them. Heck I even use some myself--make it an original, creative, never-before-seen bot.
Blow our socks off.
Le end.

You, my friend, are Dickenson. 80 agreed.
I'm a kid, and yet I do not seek popularity. I only seek fun, and the chance to annoy people. I have a bot, why? For making levels, not for being popular! So change "Popularity is what every kid wants." to "Popularity is what most kids want."
Thanks.
There is a definite divide among the bot writers. Non-programmers who write their bots just for the sake of having an EE related bot usually do a **** poor job of it, and it usually results in unpleasant experiences. You can't learn to program overnight! All of the good 3rd party EE software has come from well experienced programmers that just wanted something to program.
Here's my tip to everyone: don't learn to program so that you can write an EE bot. Learn to program so that you can program. You'll go much farther that way

Not original. I saw one years ago, long before I ever heard of this guy.

It's original when it comes to EE, if cyph1e wasn't around we probably won't have bots even now.
Popularity is nice, but I personally wouldn't use it as my main motivation. For me, it's about self pride and fun.
Yea. I think learning a new programming language would be fun as well as possibly helping me out later in life.

It's not original to EE because I've seen someone else make it long before he did.
You thinking there'd be no bots without cyph1e being around is laughable. I've known several people personally that have made their own.

Could you please provide proof?
Could you please provide proof?
I don't have a great deal of actual code available to provide physical proof, however, there's several people you may know that can vouch for it:
Most of EXCrew, Cyclone, Rurigok, Aslai, Zoey2070, BillyP7, and a few that are long since gone.

>"Popularity is what every kid wants"
Disagreed, I don't want it, nor need it. I restrain to believe that every individual soul wants to be treated as royalty.
Here's an example of a fail(newbie) programmer himself:
I've tried to learn programming and been inspired by being able to make extensions.
Computer languages help my learning about, generally, but not limited to, computation, networking and ideas.
I don't really care about the eye-candy aspects as many others do, this is why I didn't care about bots.
Until I learned that bots can be used for cheating and exploitation.
For example, with bots, I can load a .txt file, and not have to edit a .spt manually. It's more convenient for cheating.
I keep most of this to myself, to prevent success turning into failure, and having to fix it.
It's not that I don't want moderator mode to be spread for everyone to use, it's just that I'd rather not have to find a loophole if it gets fixed.
I believe that every soul wants to have their own abilities, benefits, and be able to use them.
tl;dr: not everyone wants popularity, everyone wants their own benefits for themselves. Bots are good for some cheating, not all. I don't care about eye-candy as much as exploitation & everyone sucks at something.
EDIT: Oh and, I bet 99% of the people who don't give a damn about Cyhp1e's creations and doesn't bow down and hail to them aren't jealous, just they don't want bots (and users) being shoved in their face and them being expected to treat them with that oh-so-much honor.

Twipply, GCommer, Aslai, Zalgryth, and Pugmatt have all made some sort of bot or autobuilder.
I've seen Twipply's in use, as he said, and GCommer had a pixel field level that added and deleted random blocks, Aslai has an entire **** autobuilder (and these are all before snake boss, iirc), some nub called Elvang, and Zalgryth has EEArtist, and pugmatt has that hookjump macro and rainbow thing. So there are plenty of people who have their own bots before Cyphie.
See, snake boss was released less than a year ago.
And Gcommer's tool was announced way before then. And Aslai's was before that, and I don't even know about Twipply.
So I'm pretty sure that none of them were made because of Cyphie, unless s/he is a time traveler who can go back in time by a year.

Strangely, I was just trying to be informative. I think I'll never post ever again, lest I hurt someone.
You think that people want bots because of 'popularity'?
really, that's pathetic.
I also wonder, what might make a person think that way?

You probably haven't noticed, but it's very true.
There's a reason a horde of people want to be:
- A forum mod
- An in-game mod
- In EX Crew
- A bot builder
- Having code in a world
99% of the time it's simply to be popular or to feel special. That's just the way it is.
I also agree that most people want to be able to make bots because of popularity. They see someone like me make a bot and get popular and suddenly they want to do the same thing. Do you know how many people wanted to take a screenshot with me? It's crazy.
There's definitely a sense of fandom going around in EE, and that also attracts the fans to want fans of their own.
Programming should be fun! I'm taking it in college because of how much I love it. If someone feels like making a bot because they want it as an opportunity to make something cool and to learn something new, then that's great. I learned a few things myself as I was building my bot.
Also, Zoey, my bots came after Cyph1e's.
EDIT: I wrote "everyone wants it for popularity". Fixed.

It makes sense that people want to make bots for popularity/acceptance/pride. A natural need for humans is a sense of belonging. If someone plays a video game enough to want to become the ?best player?, or just, in general, to be well-known, etc, it's perfectly possible for someone to want to do anything to accomplish that. ex: making a bot.

Exactly agree with Aslai, I dont program to be popular, Even though i did become quite popular for bots, Its not all fun and games, Its quite anoying when everyone asks you questions whenever they see you.
Programming so you have experience is the way to go, Ive learned so much from programming in EE that I've moved on to making my own 3D game in XNA with C#, And its coming along quite good (I relize how easy it is to make a game like ee, All i have to do is add physics and make it 2d and it would be almost to the stage ee is at)
Popularity is a lie.
Player Since 2011. I used to make bots and stuff.

See, if there's one thing that almost always stands true with people, it's that they want to be happy/popular/fit in or otherwise have things they don't have. I don't see how being in ex crew, or having a bot, or having a code would make someone feel special or popular. I have six different macros and bots, plus EE animator, and I don't feel very special or popular. I just use them for the lolz or when I'm bored.
As for being an in-game mod, yeah, I can understand why someone would feel popular, plus they'd want to have everything in EE, which would be pretty sweet, but most of the time someone would just abuse their powers if they were to become a mod.
As for forums, I think it's more for power than fans and being special. Personally, I want to be a forum mod to better the forums. It's probably more of a hassle than fun and games.
Also, as for your bots, yes, I realize that, so did pugmatt's, but you certainly didn't make your bot directly because Cyph1e made a bot, right?
...Why would someone want to learn a language to be popular? Learning a programming language would take a while for someone to actually accomplish, and I'm pretty sure that you won't be too popular in school if you say you know C++ or something. If I want to learn something like that, I'd learn it because it would be useful, not to be popular. And even then I personally wouldn't learn it because I lack commitment for a lot of things.
Sorry for the wall of text.

The issue is that most "bots" people make are useless chat bots that annoy everyone. I don't care who was first or whatever, as long as they create something that's fun or you know, useful to begin with. Typing !hi to have your bot say "hi" is just stupid and annoying.
*EDIT*
Oh and of course make something that hasn't been made already. Nobody likes rip-offs, let alone bad ones.

I remember that it even had collision detection.
Aslai and BillyP Aren't gone. I still meet them at CS.

Zalgryth and pugmatt come after cyph1e. If you are going after exactly time.
Elvang was the guy that gcommer or twipply helped to program his own tool for EE? If I don't have totally wrong.
I was only a fan of Gcommer, Twipply and Aslai at that time.
