Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

expanding the width of the forum

one of the biggest problems with the forum is how small the width of it is. it's only about 970 pixels wide, many people have at least 1024 or 1366. if somehow the forum got adapt to the width of the browser and use the whole space of it, it would look a lot better. is there anyway to do this?

Re: expanding the width of the forum

It's fine for me, i guess it's better this width than a bigger width.

This is a false statement.

Re: expanding the width of the forum

If it's going to be any wider it probably shouldn't be more than 1000px, or else the paragraphs would just be stupidly wide. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

Re: expanding the width of the forum

I have a snippet of CSS from the fail forums that I used to do this. I just need to find where I put it and I need Atilla and Meredith's okay on it, or they could take care of it themselves. If I recall correctly, it only took a line or two and it had the side effect of making it look a bit nicer on mobile devices.

Re: expanding the width of the forum

Seems fine for me when I zoom in, I've tested on screen sizes: 15,17,20, 30, 55, 60 and a few phones and Ipads.

Please give screenshot examples of your problem.

Still looks fine on 1600x900 and with the toolbar on the side.

it looks fine, but it's only using 1/3 of my screen and i just think it would looks better if it autoadjusted the width of the forum like different said he did with the fail forums

Re: expanding the width of the forum

There are going to be lots of bugs when we will make the fix layout into fluid layout so will take some time.
Zooming will not work....

Re: expanding the width of the forum

Use percents to fix it. Don't use a set amount of pixels. Percents should adjust to the size of the screen.

Re: expanding the width of the forum

If you really want to do so, use RESPONSIVE webdesign and/or MEDIA QUERIES (which are kinda part of responsive webdesign). I don't even think it would look nicer or better to read, since your eyes would need to follow a really long line of text. Look at newspapers - and how they do it. I think it's okay how it is done right now. For mobiles there could be another layout, but that's *not* that important. It works pretty well right now.

Without some breaks even this text is harder to read, as you see.
PS: a great read about this topic can be found @ the blog of Trent Walton.
