Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Two types of layers: Coin and key.
First of all, what is a layer? Well, it is when you create a separate counter for a section. Layer's are created by clicking on the layer block, then selecting a layer. You then click and drag on the screen. Layer's have IDs, layers with the same ID are considered the same layer. Layers are invisible except to the owner, only he/she can create them.
The coin layer is a new counter for coins. While in the layer, your "world" coins are replaced by your "layer" coins. Your world coins are still counted, and when you leave the layer they come back. But while in the layer, only that layer's coins are counted. You are shown the ID of the layer in the coin counter.
The key layer is where keys in that layer only correspond to the doors/gates on that layer. Simple enough.
What can it be used for?
Well, in minigames, you could stretch a layer over the entire section and rig up a coindoor system so that a user can play the minigames, go do something else, and resume the minigames, all the while "world" coins keeping track of coins to code system. You could have several different bosses with the same key system, all not interfering with each other.
