Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Hello all,
This may be rather an irrelevant discussion, but posts made in Mod Discussion appear to be visible to normal users. I also seem to be able to access and view Mod Discussion as a subforum. Was this a known feature or is it a bug?

#4 Re: Game Discussion » How did you find EE? » 2017-03-24 18:01:02

I found this game way back in 2009-2010 (forgot the exact year) on a Flash game website. IIRC it was Nonoba. Of course I then found the main ee page through that, and started playing that more in 2011, where I bought the Beta and all that, when it was blooming. Since then I've lost my original account, so I made a new one.

Ah, that's good at least.

I agree. As creative as this does feel, it is still centered on EE and goes in an EE-related subforum. no big deal, I just made it harder for you to find your topic.

thanks

Thanks for moving it.

Regarding the topic though, why did they choose Unity and not HTML5? The latter could easily be browser based and be converted from Flash a lot easier than it would to rewrite it on Unity.

Edit: That could also simplify some rework in the physics engine (if a "reboot" is truly desired), as well as (potentially) being able to save existing worlds on to it.

That seems overly tedious. I would think the optimum prime is to just directly port the essential mechanics and then adjust or redesign the rest from there? That way you essentially have the engine and the game isn't too unfamiliar to others.

Im not sure if they were porting small parts of it or not, all I know is that one of the staff (cant remember who) said that they were rewriting a lot of it

Also, the game is in a bad position currently, features have just been added with little to no designing / planning, which has led to messy, sort of patchwork code, so most of it could be improved a lot.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. We all know whose era added a lot of these features //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/wink
What I'd personally do is likely port the core mechanics of the game (movement, blocks, physics, editing, God mode, mod mode, etc) and then the rest can be added on top of the core engine. This includes more advanced UI, shop, "potions", colours, etc.

Just to let you know, one of the reasons that it was taking so long is that they were (/are) not just directly porting it to Unity, they were also optimising / rewriting / redesigning a lot of it

It should definitely not take very long with experienced developers.
Do you have a considerable amount of experience with Unity?

I myself do not have a considerable amount of experience (in my development team, I'm mostly a writer / composer / director), but my programmer, with whom I closely work, has a good amount of experience and programming in general. Over 15 years for programming. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

The community has been dwindling over the span of several years, and for the last few months progress has been as well.
It's only been a few days since the change of administration, and progress is starting to made towards the Unity project.

It's still very early to be doing any sort of analysis pertaining to the recent events. I'd wait until an announcement is made.

Hello all,
As we all inevitably know, the entire EE community seems to be dwindling, especially with many old staff members quitting the game. Personally, it's a little worrying; I've been playing the game for around 7 years now, back when Beta didn't even exist, back when the game itself was in Beta. It has evolved much since.
What I'd like to ask is regarding the current situation of EE, which seems to be stuck in the whole Unity conversion situation, and seems to currently be at a standstill. Sorry if this is not a desirable topic to post about or inquire about (and if it;s even in the right subforum), but I myself am working with a small team on Unity to work on a small multiplayer project which is still in the early stages; although, being a longtime fan of EE, I've considered asking my team to recreate it in Unity (it will not interfere much with our own projects) and get that part of EE over with for the staff and for the community.

I'd like to ask both moderators and members of the community if this is something worth attempting.
I'd also like to make it clear that I don't want to steal the team's current progress or take their work from them. Mostly to lend a hand if possible.

#15 Re: Game Discussion » What do you consider "noob"? » 2015-05-02 00:20:03

- Someone new to the game,
- someone who makes terrible or unfair maps,
- someone who obsesses over calling others hackers,
- someone who can't do well in the easiest minigames,
- someone who keeps trying to ask to be an admin,
- and someone who keeps asking for stuff like edit code.

HA! That's pretty funny. XD Though it might be funny if he called you genwunner, and you called him a Sony Pony. Much better clean insults, lol.

#18 Re: Graphics Suggestions » Recreated Police Smiley » 2015-03-23 23:45:35

Very good, I like it. :3 The darker colours really suit the more modern uniform style they don, so I think it should be added. :3

#19 Re: Game Suggestions » I suggest a smiley. » 2015-03-23 23:43:22

I mean, sure, if we want to turn Everybody Edits into a game with clones from other shows and games and whatnot. I don't quite think it would be that good of an addition, to be honest. It might break the smiley style with the vivid colors, but that's just my two cents.

No, it's just that the system is a lot smarter than you think it is. Allow me to quote Benjaminsen:

Benjaminsen's Blog Post (12 Jan, 11) wrote:

Q:  If I pick up a lot of coins will I get magic faster?
A: No the system is clever than that.

Yes, it's irony, if I were one, I would never say that.

Lol, neither would I, especially if told not to say that.

I think the problem is that people have gotten too comfortable with Mr.Shoe's magic system. Especially those who never saw the old magic. Give it a few months and people will be fine with it.

Completely agree with this. Back in MrShoe's reign, magic coins were a lot more commonplace than in Benjaminsen's reign; this is just the system going back to its original state.

Honestly, I'm kind of amused by this. In the original EE days, magic was just as rare as this, and had way more rewards (Wizard, red wizard, dark wizard anyone?). Moreover, quitting life over a flash game is just silly; you shouldn't do that. Get magic the same way I did back in the old days, when I had my original account: Just play random levels, collect coins, and be patient. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

So true

That's literally the only thing you can do. A lot better than going on the forums and crying about it. XD
