9/11 Memorial Appreciation Thread

Like no joke - they did a real good job with the site of the towers, the memorial is pretty damn impressive architecturally speaking. In terms of what it achieves, and how it takes such a tragedy and reminds us of the impact that it had on the city - honestly it's something to behold.

Some pictures:

By taking the footprint of where the towers once stood, and replacing them with these cavernous voids, it really leaves an impact on the sheer scale of the towers, and the size of the scar that their loss has had on the city. Amidst all of the other skyscrapers, all of the hustle and bustle of the city, all of the noise, it is a sombre reminder of the loss from that day.

If I ever visit New York, it's definitely on my list of places to visit.

But still - in my opinion - of course ignoring these events is not the best - but - I think that we need to forgive - and move into the future during the present - but with attention of past mistakes.

I agree.

Yeah, it was a big tragedy but its over now, just move on. (my opinion)

I would assume most people have heard this in the news, but it's especially important now.

In 2010, there was a bill signed into law, the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010, providing health care to the first responders, volunteers and victims of September 11th, and unlike the recent tax break for billionaires, which is permanent, this law has to be renewed every 10 years.

Under the current administration it isn't guaranteed that the act will be renewed, however, and for that reason it's incredibly important to spread awareness and to pressure congress to do its job and act on behalf of the American people by renewing this program, rather than their usual evading renewals and repeals for programs that don't serve their corporate interests.

I always wondered what the place of 2 towers looks like, I always assumed there were just regular buildings so i didn't bother to check. But wow. This is some good memorial here.

It's always a good day to appreciate good architecture!

One thing that is beyond me is how the memorial is "architecturally impressive" being essentially two large square pits? Can you as a person that is studying architecture shed some light onto this for an ignorant mortal like myself?
