Platforms [No its not something common]
A platform, like the shape of the new toxic pack one-way.
How it works is that when u stand on this "platform", and you press down key, you fall down to the next block below you.
I mean that is how it works, its simple and not complex i guess.
Basically just stand on that platform, press S, or down arrow key while standing on it, and you fall down through it below.
