Normally, you can type %username% as part of a sign to display the current player's name. I'm guessing that doesn't work currently for NPC names.

Good suggestion, but first they must add the % symbol because you can't even type it now

fun fact: out of all the special symbols, ~ is the only one that works on npc names

Id love to be able to add Chinese symbols to NPC usernames.

This would allow me a feature to name people "hiunhai" in traditional symbols.

I don't know if the EE font supports Chinese symbols, since it doesn't support any characters aside from a-z, 0-9 and then some stuff that is easy to make on a QWERTY keyboard like + or \ and stuff like that. If you were to paste a lenny face or a shrug in text it'd be ( ° ° ) and not a lenny face. THey would probably have to custom make all the Chinese characters.

I wanna share an "easter egg" i suppose. I tried making %username% with npc names but it turns out it's quite difficult to do! And from my testings i forgot to remove '%' from allowed characters list. You can now place npcs with % in their names..

Not really. Npc uses the same code for names and chat bubbles that players use. Names were designed to be static and text bubbles flexible, i would need to rewrite many things to make it work
