Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

The American school lunch system is very cheap and low in quality. Almost all the products that students eat are gumpy and frozen prior to preparation. Almost all of the food - if not, all - of American school lunches are processed or contain processed, unhealthy foods. Just one look at this article shows the quality of food in a different country - France - as an example of why American school lunches are, well, bad.

Compare that to the crud American students eat nowadays. It's no wonder why students bring their own lunches. Smart choice...
One argument could be that America doesn't have enough $$$ to provide for fresh, made-daily meals. But even then, a slight increase in price for meals shouldn't hurt schools too much.
When I was in highschool I'd eat the crap they served in school
without a doubt i'd say yes
school food is of worse quality than prison food, its the nastiest, most unsatisfying plate of garbage you can get anywhere

Charlie: Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?
Maverick: Because I was inverted.

It's fine. That said, I'm just about the least picky eater you'll find.

This is what my daily lunch would look like. But minus the hawaiian punch. We're not allowed to have that.
oh yeah, and not the salt packets on the table. We're not allowed to have salt.

How salty did that make you?
In my school we had similar stuff. It's all pretty mediocre.

honestly that looks pretty good compared to mine
I bought a bag of chips at my school a few days ago and it expired like 3 months ago.
Some of the food is so repulsive you wonder if it's gone bad. For example, theres a little hummus bowl thing that tastes EXACTLY like play doh. Like, oddly so.
Them making the food "healthy" is instead making the food unhealthy. It's kinda like diet coke vs regular in a sense that sure it doesnt have as many calories/sugar or w/e, but they fill it with so many chemicals and whatnot that it's a bit concerning

What's wrong with that? Put some of that mystery BBQ sauce they always have on those and maybe some ketchup for whatever those things are on the left and you've got yourself a fairly satisfying meal.

Oh my god the american school food is terrible. Are they trying to lower class size by poisoning all of us? Lunchboxes are a pain, but at least you have something edible for lunch. IMO, the reason it is like that is because it has to be cheap enough for 85-90% of my school to get free or reduced price lunches, and not waste too much money. But all the kids getting free lunch are the same ones getting 10 bags of chips everyday, so they clearly have enough money to pay for lunch...

How lovely.
My school had a breakfast program which I occasionally participated in preparing, and cleaning after knitting class at the end of the day.
The daytime provided free meals prior to classes, free for any students.
Our cafeteria had fresh purchasable food (yum poutine & chocolate milk), all of which is better than chicken nuggets, apple sauce and hashed browns.
It's especially a sad state of affairs if those schools have to serve expired food, especially since a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit are thrown away.

pfft, you have it all handed to you literally, here in my country we have to bring our own food to school.
we cant carry a whole meal to school,so we either carry a single sandwich,or some fruit or whatever, while you have whole meals.sometimes if we are able to sneak out of the school [before we could just go out the yard, and purchase stuff]and go to a store,we could eat whatever we want.

I've heard stories about American school food, is it true that you only get like french fries, chips and stuff like that? O.o

american school food varies whether or not your school has enough money to provide sufficient meals
the majority of american school food has a a juice cup, some sort of fruit, a milk carton, and plastic utensils
the main dish is usually something very simple and easy to make, like microwave pizza, hamburgers, hash browns, noodles in a tomato puree...etc.
sometimes there is a side, usually french fries or the occasional salad no one eats
also where do you live? im going to guess scandinavia, since the picture you provided has gravy and jelly

In Washington state, all schools are required by law to provide a salad bar. Now the main entree can range from fried fish sticks to rice and teriyaki nuggets to chicken and mashed potatoes. All the entrees were very carb-o-riffic, but they are all edible to good.

At my school it was great. We had options. Tons of options. We had options at lower grade levels but my high school had more variety and they sold these amazing cookies for 25¢ each that were absolutely godlike. If I die and those cookies aren't there, I'm rioting. But about the food, we always had the option of a burger, hot dog (made to order, cheese and chili were available if you asked), or rectangular pizza. We almost always had burritos, and there was always 2 types of salad and 2 types of wraps. There was also 2 or 3 items that changed every day. Stuff like chicken nuggets, fried chicken, chicken fingers, spaghetti with a chicken patty, spicy chicken sandwiches, normal chicken sandwiches, or tuna cheese pasta stuff. There were also sides. There was always stuff like mixed fruit chunks, trail mix, spinach, and had a few random items like orange slices, apple slices, apple sauce, frozen fruit cups, apple crisp, and more! There was also always whole fruits available. Apples, oranges, pears, and bananas. Since 80% of the school was also on free or reduced lunches, the whole school was given free lunch so that was pretty great.
