Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

The new smiley design

Smileys in EEU aren't great like I thought, they are so flat and simplistic. The eyes are placed so far from each other which is making the smiley a way terrible. I'm kinda disappointed

Re: The new smiley design

I liked them tbh.

That said, I’m sure there’s still room for change. So if you have any suggestions for the new style I’m sure they’d be willing to listen.

I’m pretty sure ByteArray said the graphics aren’t finished.

They look like placeholders.

Re: The new smiley design

iirc they're not placeholders as such, but are likely to change as we move towards a more final style for the game. As always, we read pretty much everything posted to the forums, and we're at a stage of fairly rapid change at this point, so any constructive criticism / suggestions are greatly appreciated //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile

Edit: It does look like some of the 'flat'ness (at least in the image above) comes from the video compression, the actual graphics definitely have more shading, and are a bit less desaturated.

i like the blocks but the smileys don't look so good right now, looks more like emoji than ever before, too realistic for my tastes

hey that isnt .svg
the //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile looks ok, the blocks are really nice, the //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/cool's shades are slightly too small imo and overly realistic

Re: The new smiley design

Could there be like a setting to switch between 16x16 and 24x24 mode?  I mean I think blocks can do well with the transition over but I feel like smileys just won't translate the same.  There's this pixelly charm to them and it's a little sad to see we're getting vector graphics in their place instead.

Considering the graphics are vectorized you most likely will be able to change it to 16x16, 32x32 and whatever you want.

Yeah. They look a little bit too vectorized, if you know what I mean.

Also question: Why is the game so damn zoomed in?

I guess that's true.  I suppose it's just the mouth being a little slimmer, horizontally, that's bugging me?  Maybe I'm nostalgic but the current smiley style for EE looks terrific.. I mean a few smileys could be tweaked, but the majority of them, and default, just have that right look to them.  The bigger ones are trying to imitate the style, but it's not quite there.

In the normal view, blocks are 24x24 by default (compared to 16x16 currently), the blocks Xenonetix linked are renderings of the same vector graphics but at twice this size, which might be what you see in full screen mode on larger monitors.
