Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Re: To keep old worlds playable after EE Universe, make an offline client.

Thank you for the response, Xenonetix. Personally, I completely respect and agree with your choice not to bring them all over. It's good to know that the rEEboot will be a fresh restart, without the Staff having the pressure of making sure worlds work perfectly as they have for years.

Xenonetix wrote:

In terms of keeping access by World ID, this is very unlikely, as the reboot is unlikely to have the same format of World IDs anyway.

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by this, but I assume you're responding to my comment that world ID links should still be supported. I don't think you understood what I meant by that.

I'm not asking you to move over every world ID, but I am saying there should be a way to keep those world URLs working. Have it automatically redirect to a world archive run by fans where people can load the old world, for example. Besides the redirect system, this wouldn't need any work on your part. In my opinion, this is a far far better choice than breaking thousands of old links.

Ah, but that's the main point of my topic... since you say you can discuss it, please do that in the upcoming months. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/big_smile

If there isn't an official player for archived worlds, I'm sure somebody will make one. The fan-made client is unlikely to get the attention an official one would, which means people would be less aware of it. The solution? Make it clear how to play old worlds when the time comes.

I met somebody in-game a few days ago who didn't even know about the plans for a reboot of the game, so imagine what it would be like to return to a brand new game thinking your old worlds have been lost! Peoples' attention spans are short online, so it's likely people would completely miss that there's a fan-made archive. That would alienate even more players from the game than we already have. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/neutral

To me, the choice seems obvious. You don't have to backup any worlds, because Atilla has already done that in a file type just for offline world backups. I'm not sure how hard it would be to make everything in the game client-sided, but if it's a lot of hard work you could ask the community to help if you want.

All we need is an offline client that can load worlds, which people can easily find and use, as well as a redirection system for old world URLs. That's all I'm asking for. You write "We have to let go of the past to provide a brighter future for this game," and personally, I consider an official offline client to be part of a brighter future, where the hard work put into old worlds is recognized and respected through the choices of the Staff.

Dear Xen, maybe you can code an easy program that doesn't require any downloads, which can store as many worlds as you want. People can store their worlds in that bot and paste the image in the new versions whenever they've bought the world size, and the worlds get pasted as closely as possible.

I fixed that for you. If I made any mistakes, please let me know.

Re: To keep old worlds playable after EE Universe, make an offline client.

Fan-made world sorting system?

Around a year ago I began planning an ambitious world sorting system, including stats, minimaps, and tags. This would be the world list of all world lists—bigger than any ever made in the last nine years. Because Atilla is keeping his giant database to himself until the game is offline, I'm looking into doing work myself because honestly I don't trust having just one archive that won't even be shared until the servers are already down.

A few days ago I began experimenting with downloading worlds and sending that data to a server. I think it's very likely that with some work, I could get my program automatically saving and uploading data. The problem? There are simply way too many worlds to be confident about this working. Unlike I assumed before, you can't find worlds through much but the ID, owner, or where it's listed alphabetically. This means I have to download them to even know if they even have anything in them!

If this goes anywhere I will let the forums know. Still, as this is currently a single-person project, I hope we don't have to rely on just me or Atilla for a copy of the BigDB's worlds.

Our answer: Everybody Edits Offline

When I was in a world with Xenonetix, he said some things about an official offline client. Everybody Edits Offline is apparently being developed by Cercul1. When asked, Xenonetix said he didn't think about putting it on Kongregate or other websites. The current idea is that there will be an update adding a download button on the hotbar, allowing the player to download one world at a time.

This is some good news! My suggestion has been accepted. But what exactly does this mean for our current backups? Could BigDB downloads be converted to this format? Will it be the same format used in EEditor and such? Or could they even be requested directly from BigDB somehow? If somehow none of these questions are answered with "yes" then that could be a problem for EEO support, as we couldn't automatically get the EEO format without joining worlds one at a time. But I'm going to assume the Staff will be more careful than that.

Feedback to the Staff

Thank you for all the consideration put into this! I hope to see the download feature soon so any volunteers can start helping out.

EE just shouldn't be closed...

seriously, just keep two servers or "merge them":

In the shop you'll be able to define the "scale" of blocks in your world.

That's the best offer for both.

You can use a way to load worlds from date, which some world use. Which mean you can download a lot of worlds.
I have access to the world archive that atilla have, but i wont share it.
