Count. to 1000!

In this game, you play as a vampire who wishes to gain enough blood points to become the ultimate vampire!

There are 3 ways you can gain points:

▼Comment

If you write any comment in the thread, you will bite a human to gain blood points equal to your post number divided by 2 (rounded down).

As some examples:
Post 7 would be worth 3 points.
Post 100 would be worth 50 points.
Post 239 would be worth 119 points.

To comment, simply do not attack or defend within your post.

▼Attack

Alternatively, you may bite another player. Biting another player removes 50% of their points (rounded up) and gives them to you.

As some examples:
If mutantdevle attacked Devlin who had 50 points, mutantdevle would gain 25 points leaving Devlin with only 25 points.
If Devlin bit mutantdevle who had 137 points, then Devlin would gain 69 points leaving mutandevle with 68 points.
If mootantdevil decided to steal from Devlin who had 122 points, then mootantdevil would gain 61 points leaving Devlin with 61 points.

To attack another player, simply specify in your post who you want to attack/bite/steal from.

▼Defend

Finally, you could choose to use magical garlic to defend yourself against other vampires. This means that you cannot be attacked for the next 10 posts. If someone does try to attack you during this time, you will automatically steal 10% of their points (rounded up).

As some examples:
If mutantdevle chose to defend on comment 74, he would not be able to be attacked until post 84. If Devlin, who had 678 points, tried to attack mutantdevle during this time, then mutantdevle would gain 68 points whilst Devlin would lose 68 points.
If Devlin chose to defend on comment 103, he would not be able to be attacked until post 113. If mutantdevle, who had 163 points, tried to attack Devlin during this time, then Devlin would gain 16 points whilst mutantdevle would lose 16 points.
If mootantdevil chose to defend on comment 345, he would not be able to be attacked until post 345. If mutantdevle, who had 100 points, tried to attack mootantdevil during this time, then mootantdevil would gain 10 points whilst mutantdevle would lose 10 points.

To defend, simply state that you want to defend within your post.

Players currently in defence mode will be marked in bold with the duration they are defending for.

In a single post, you cannot perform more than 1 of these actions at once. If you do not specify an attacking or defending action, you will automatically comment.

You may also not post twice within the last 5 posts. This means if your post is post number 67, then you cannot post again until post number 62. This means 4 other players would have posted before you do.

Everytime you break this rule, you will lose 10% of your points (rounded up).

Just to ask, if we decide to attack someone, do we get only their stolen points or does it add up with your post number?

If you choose to attack or defend, you do not gain any points from your post number.

Aka: only their stolen points.

Side note, what do you mean by "every 5 posts"? Do you mean 4 posts must exist since your last post (so that the last 5 posts of a topic only contain 1 post by any user) or that 5 other people must post before you can post again?

WHAT THE HECK? This game was about counting! By that logic, we would count 50 each time! Mutandevle, I'm quitting this game until you make it about ACTUALLY counting to 1000.

Now you get to count in intervals of 50! Do you know your 50's times tables? They go: 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600, 650, 700, 750, 800, 850, 900, 950, 1000.

I think half of the fun of this game was that the point values would constantly rise, making the question of whether to just rake in the points or to attack or defend much harder.

The question of attacking or defending has never been a hard one. The answer has always been to do neither and just take the points, that's how you stay on top of the leaderboard assuming you are not attacked multiple times between each post. You ALWAYS get more points from just commenting rather than attacking, the only reason people have been attacking is that they felt like sabotaging others. No attack has yielded more points than simply commenting thus far but that will change now that the points have been capped. Even then, making either decision is mostly pointless as a simple comment usually brings you to the top of the leaderboard anyway. (note how Jet is in the top 5 despite only joining the game recently). This point cap is only temporary though, so don't worry. From post 100 onwards each comment will be worth half the post number.

Hah! Don't get overly smug there.
What you just did cannot possibly be permissible. You can't just attack someone and then immediately go into defense mode. That just allows you to get free hits on people and be perfectly safe and is very abusable. The rules might need to be better worded though, now that I am reading them again. Nonetheless I'm sure Devlin won't allow you to get away with this. And if he doesn't do anything, well I may need to try your trick out sometime if you know what I mean.

I reprove this.
The rules weren't clear enough. (as previous said not only by me) And my actions were made according to them. Applying rules retroactively is abusing.
I demand a recount or 0 points.

The rules were clear enough, you just tried to abuse the wording. Every other player was able to understand the rules and those who still violated them were given the same treatment as you. The only retroactive rules I have applied are a small change to the counting system for game balance purposes and the addition of a loss of points for violating rules. The addition of the rule about attacking someone who is defending costing you points would have had no impact on the game since no one has done this yet. Also, for the record, the penalty for violating the rules has not been imposed on anyone who broke the rules before this rule was added. So I guess you can think of it as a grace period of no penalty for breaking the rules to make sure there is no doubt about them. Your demands will not be met. There will be no recount and I'm giving you 62 points instead of 0 because that's how many points your post is worth.

I agree with Zumza on the fact that you shouldn't just change your rules all willy-nilly like that Devlin.
You badly worded the rules and that made Zumza believe he could do something that he cannot do, and it took you a while to respond to what he is saying. You should probably restart the game and make sure that you make consistent and properly worded rules.

▼For anyone who cares about Zumza:

The only rules I have changed have done the following things for the game:

1. Made the game more balanced. 1 point per post number was drastically OP.
2. Given more of a punishment for breaking rules other than simply discounting a post.
3. Made the game slightly more interesting but wouldn't have had an impact on the game anyway since no one had attacked someone who was defending before the rule was added.

I hardly think that needs the game to be restarted.

The rules weren't that badly worded either. They were perfectly understood by everyone except 2 people. The first person got the message as soon as I told them their 2nd post didn't count. Unfortunately, I wasn't around when Zumza was breaking the rule.

However, Zumza was told by multiple people that what he was doing wouldn't be counted yet he ignored them. In theory, he should conclude that maybe all those people were telling the truth considering, as was pointed out to him by you, that the way he was interpreting the rule would be heavily abusable.

He understood that the wording of the rules had slight leeway for interpretation, but instead of playing it safe, he continued doing what multiple told him he couldn't do as a gamble for getting as many points as possible. That gamble did not pay off.

I'm not going to restart the game unless there is mass support for it. But I hardly feel like I need to when it really isn't that hard for Zumza to catch back up.

I'm going to repeat myself:

The previous rules as worded were not obstructing my actions. People were assuming that they can't do it.
I played by concrete, not assumed rules. The previous rules permitted my actions.

The 3 types of actions: attack, defend, comment were definite split. The condition was not to comment again within a 5 posts frame.

I'd argue that I've been gambling, I've read the rules carefully point to point, perhaps more so than others.

Incorrect. The previous rules did not define 'comment' as a separate action. The first part of the rules said you needed to post to gain the points. Later in the rules, the part you quoted described gaining these points as a comment. Hence, in the previous rules, the words comment and post were used interchangeably. Therefore, when the rules say you cannot comment twice within the last 5 posts it means you cannot post twice within the last 5 posts. Comment was not defined as its own action and was used synonymously with post. The use of "alternatively" when defining attack and defend also makes it clear you can only do 1.

Well yes of course. Originally, this game was only made to troll diff with the title for April Fools so little thought was put into the wording, all that was needed was the concept. Since the game seems popular, thought has been put into it and now the game should be somewhat balanced and without loopholes. I don't expect any more rules to be changed/added.

The isolate function allows you to see all the posts that someone has posted in this thread. I was using it to help me keep track of who is defended but now I mark who is defending on the leaderboard. I've left the option enabled because why not.

It doesn't say anywhere that my action is canceled. The action is performed with a deduct of 10% points of total points as penalty.

It also doesn't tell you that you can't attack multiple people in 1 post or use an alt to post 4 times between your own post or create your own actions to perform, but if anyone tried any of those, then I wouldn't permit it. I'm enforcing the rules in the way I intend them. You are actively trying to exploit the rules. They are clear enough the way they are and don't expect to achieve anything by blatantly attempting to cheat.

I'm not cheating. This is what is written. You break the rule = 10% penalty, and nothing more than that.
Also rules specif that you can attack another person. Singular.

To put it simply: I don't care. It may not be written, but it's still a rule. Some rules aren't written because they are obvious. You are free to interpret the rules how you like, but I will enforce them the way they are intended. For example, the rules don't specify that you can't do what peace did and say "I want to attack the player with the most points". He's still specifying who he wants to attack, I'm still not allowing it. It's obvious that your posts aren't counted if they don't follow the rules, otherwise, what's the point of the rule? And I've clearly been enforcing it that way this entire thread. Either play like everyone else is or leave. The choice is yours. But either way, your attempts to exploit the rules will not and never will be successful.

You should do what peace says and target the players with most points at the time of that post, in my opinion. You can't update the leaderboard for each post, and nor should we take that evidence. It's hard to know what's accepted and not. Some rules are obvious just to you only, the rest of us are left with just reading the OP which clearly isn't well formulated.

I can understand why peace's method is technically not covered by the rules (hence why I did not dock him any points for it). However, the rule of "your post isn't counted if it breaks a rule" has been enforced in the game since page 1 and hence has always been an unwritten rule. I'll make sure to cover as much ground as I can next time.

Everyone should probably make a note of this:

make the defend time shorter so you cant just chain between defending and attackong the highest

I changed the defending mechanic so it only defends against the first person to attack you. So now, if you want to take down a defending person, someone's got to make a sacrifice first.
