Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Motivation

I’m on the verge of failing the year due to dangerously self-destructive levels of procrastination.

How do you motivate yourselves to do stuff?

Re: Motivation

the more you think about something the more likely you are to procrastinate
if you try to do something, that you've been procrastinating about, spontaneously you might actually succeed
also, if the threat of failing the year doesnt motivate you enough, then i dont know what will

Hey what's up with these anonymous threads

Set alarms for things. Count down from 5 if you can't make a decision. Learn the discipline to say "**** if I don't do this I'll die" to yourself

Re: Motivation

try to just do it. force yourself to do it. put on music. do it. cut **** up into bits of pieces. work for 25 min/break for 5/work for 25/break 5, etc.

Re: Motivation

Sometimes people just can't break out of procrastination. Their parents don't care/don't have the time to help their children break out of this s***. If you have friends that are supportive and poke you constantly to do honework with them you're super lucky. If not, r.i.p.

You can't just "change" the way you operate. You need someone to force you. Living life isn't possible alone. Throw away that motivational sentiment and face the cold hard truth. Motivation requires another person.

So for that, seek a counselor or therapist. Good luck.

Re: Motivation

different people have different ways of motivation. Being pushed to work only made me depressed and do less work because I need control over what I do.

What could help is finding the subjects you’re good at. Starting to work on those subjects is a lot easier than on harder subjects, when you start to get used to doing homework you can start on the harder subjects.
Motivation comes from a steady lifestyle, if your life is a mess it’s harder to get yourself to work. This starts with sleeping early.

Re: Motivation

here are my tips

short term:

break up your goals into really little tasks. fragment them as small as you like, and then just try to bring yourself to do the first one. even if it's just "put book on desk". if you tell yourself that's all you need to do, it becomes easy. then once you've done that, you try to do the next small step. you keep doing that and at some point you don't need to split them into steps anymore, because you get used to working.

take breaks. you can do (work/break) 20m/10m, 45m/15m, 25m/5m or whatever you find suits you best. it's good to do things according to a routine, so it becomes normal.

work in a distraction-free environment. just basically remove the things that will distract you. if you need to use your computer for your work, move all your distracting non-work bookmarks into a folder. put the folder into a folder that is another folder that is in another folder. maximise the amount of effort it takes to get to those distractions.

music - some people work better with music, some people get distracted by it. i personally find it distracting most of the time, as i would much prefer to completely clear my mind and focus on my task, which is easier to do in silence. figure out what is best for you.

long term:

be healthy. eat well, sleep well, exercise.

plan ahead and schedule your studying. as i said before, making a routine is very helpful so that you can create habits and break your bad habits.

improve your concentration. the previous tips help with this. another interesting thing is meditation. im not sure how much this helps and whether it works for everyone, but ive tried it a little and i feel that it does help, so maybe you could try it.

cant think of anything else off the top of my head. remember that breaking habits that you have reinforced over years is not going to be easy. do not expect there to be a magic trick to improving yourself. in the end, you will be the one who must put the work in. it's often the things you least want to do that are the things you need to do. which is why people often look for quick tricks rather than putting work in. it's like an obese man hoping to lose weight but also eat mcdonalds every day. it's not gonna happen. the reason i mention this is because you chose to post here rather than just research it yourself, which would indicate that you're looking for some "tricks" because you didn't like the advice you found. anyway, i wish you luck. please do further research on things ive mentioned if you want more information (particularly the meditation because there are lots of different ways of meditating).

also i wanna address this:

this is such ****. yes, there are things we cant change about ourselves. however, OP isnt even CLOSE to having to worry about that. they arent even using half of their potential. you honestly sound like someone who just blames others for their own shortcomings. you do not require another person. you need to push yourself to be better because if you cant motivate yourself on your own, you have a problem. why tolerate these personal flaws? stop whining about what others are doing and improve yourself. also, theres no point in telling op to seek professional help. thats the kind of thing that they will just put off doing and procrastinate on just like their work. do you know what their self-diagnosed condition then turns into? yet another excuse for why they're not successful. excuses are the worst thing you can offer to a lazy person. furthermore, even if they find the motivation to get professional help, it would be much better for them to seek to improve on their own first.
