wouldn't that symbol more readily tell the player that they had muted the person on the list?
other possibility: instead of making the info easier to find, do not provide it at all

That's just removing the medium [difficulty] way of doing it (the hard one being to start sharing gossip or whatever about them because usually people respond to that)
The only reason I don't do that is because there's an easier way to check.
