Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

it depends when the orbit is defined as to start. calendars do not account for that
There isn't a starting/ending point to the earth's orbit.
It's almost a circle... it doesn't matter where it starts/stops. So long as it makes a full revolution.
Therefore, it's entirely up to the calendar when they want to celebrate new years.
EDIT:
if the earth hasn't done that then you're wrong by saying it's 2017 when it's actually not
a lot of calendars are not in the year 2017.

that's what I said, it depends when the orbit is defined as to start, in an elliptical orbit there is no starting point unless you define one
the calendar does not account for that, and time zones further obfuscate it. it does not take light 2 hours to travel from nova scotia to bulgaria.

Then why are you calling people retarded for celebrating new years 2 months from now?

You're right, it's more like 6 hours.

because it's retarded to celebrate a year passing when a year hasn't passed
they haven't defined a starting point and there is no universally agreed upon one to my knowledge
people celebrate it at different time zones and based on their calendars

the speed of light is 186,282 miles per second... the distance between nova scotia to bulgaria is like 4000 miles roughly are you serious or can you not into maths

but a year has passed.
Tomorrow at midnight, a year will have passed since last January 2nd at midnight. It's a year no matter where you say it begins.

I don't think you understand time zones.

time zones do not measure when the earth has completed an orbit around the sun, which is what a year is defined as.

No, but they also don't measure how fast light travels either.
It's based on mean solar time. It has nothing to do with the speed of light.

it has nothing to do with a year passing either so people shouldn't celebrate it when their clock hits 12:00 in their timezone
people shouldn't use timezones for things it wasn't intended for, aka not using it to determine when a year has passed

i don't see how you think people aren't stupid for not knowing what the current year is

The day ends at midnight. That's why people claim it to be new years when their timezone reaches midnight. It's no different that holidays that end at sun down. If you're at different points on the planet, the sun will go down at a different times.

a year is not defined as how many times the sun goes down, it's defined as when a planet completes an orbit around the sun

the time it takes for the earth to complete an orbit around the sun is an objective measurement, time zones are not an objective measurement

365 days 9hrs and some odd amount of minutes.
If I have a countdown of that time that started at midnight tomorrow, it would end january 2nd next year.

good for you, that does not validate people celebrating it at different times over the span of hours before and after it becomes january 2nd of next year

yeah but i dont see how its unreasonable for someone to not know something
you can say they're wrong but
then again maybe nvm google definition says "lacking intelligence or common sense." for the definition of stupid
and if you consider intelligence to be stuff thats learned then i guess sure it would fit the definition so nvm
but why do you have to say that they're stupid assuming you're using those definitions?
for many ppl stupid is a word used to degrade ppl
wouldnt it be better to avoid possibly making ppl feel bad by instead saying specifically that they're wrong and why they're wrong and explaining what is right
idk
Offline
that's why people celebrate it at different times...
having a universal time based on a year makes a lot more sense than people celebrating it at different times also daylight savings means depending on the date brazil is 1-3 hours different than the US
gkaby because ill call people what they are, and if they're stupid, ill call them stupid
sorry but i don't care if it hurts your feelings

According to the sun my day ends at a different time than yours. According to the calendar I use, my year ends at a different time than the chinese.
Sorry the world doesn't conform to fit your ideals. I guess we'll just have to live being retarded.
