Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Re: Obsession with the mini map

I have to take BEE's side on this. How is it a problem? I understand it's somewhat unpleasing to be looking at this:

But isn't it worth it?

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Out of context? Absolutely not. What does the minimap look like?

I can't see it right now because EE is broken, but it wasn't much. Just a little volcano.

I guess some people just appreciate art more then others.

Re: Obsession with the mini map

I don't like black block challenges... it shows nothing but "noobism", since that person cant blend the minis, yet still worries only about art.

If you can't blend levels, stick to the blocks of minigames, and away from art. If you can blend levels, then good, thank you.

Well as long as it's not just a mess of random blocks, it's fine. Honestly, it's usually hard NOT to blend levels...

This hardly happens. If it does, you don't HAVE to use very inch of the map //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile If you've made something but it only just isn't right, you can alter the art a tad as well, as long as it doesn't mess up the art completely. Usually it's only 1 block so you can't see the difference anyway.

Re: Obsession with the mini map

Sorry if I'm late... I didn't feel like reading all three pages..

But here is my opinion. There are two main elements to a level. The landscape and the challenges. Now, I could honestly care less what a level looks like on the "play field",   but I guess I can see your point. But you also have to admit, a beautiful minimap will shock people more then an ugly one that looks good on the play field.

As for challenges, like, if they are for the most part integrated into the level scenery, then, it's OK.

But really what bee said on page one was true.. It depends on why you play. A big part of why I play is for a good looking minimap.

@JAKERY: Here's what the minimap of the example I put earlier looks like:

2NOU: Yeah, but with this world I was making with NikK, the whole thing was colored. We had to use gates and coindoors, but the purple and light blue colors had to be left alone.

You're saying that you'd hate a level if it had amazing minigames but black blocks?

YES, I would.

But if it used ANY other color I'd be just fine with it. I'm rather sick of the whole hurdur it's hard to see and that makes it hard school of minis. Especially the leap of faith hope I find an invisble brick, but miss so I have to start over levels.

Given the choice between an all black minigame level and a pixel art minigame level, pixel art wins. All-black-blocks is extremely cheap and noobish.

The only thing worse than all black blocks levels is all secret blocks levels.

I mean spamming black blocks to keep player away from keys or crowns.

Go to http://damnyouautocorrect.com/

It's the second funniest website I've seen in my life. It's dedicated to iPod auto-correct.

What about when combined with pizel art challenges, as in, not everything is black block challenges?   What's your opinion on that?

And Ozone, what do you mean by pixel art? Really good pixel art or sprites?

Not Sprits.   I mean art in a larger scale-form.

I guess it depends on the world, but from what I've seen these worlds are a chore to play.

My opinion in general:
Don't do what everyone else is doing if you want to stand out.

Re: Obsession with the mini map

My take on this is there's no one solution fits all for EE. Some players love beautiful minimaps, some players just want a challenge, some just want to play stairs, some want a balance of art and nice minis, so it's all based on one's preferences.

It's true a map creator should never go to any of the extremes when making a map, such as only focusing on the minimap to the detriment of the minis and in game appearance, or focusing only on the minis creating an ugly in game appearance and minimap, there is enough diversity on EE to support both art and mini lovers.
