Debian doesn't compile PHP with GD support, and apparently just installing the GD extension isn't enough to get vizhash working. I'd need to recompile PHP and I can't say that that's something I've been dying to do all my life.

oh I didn't even know that existed.
I suppose you could just take your random number seed, hash that, and have each letter be a byte representing something else...
like first three are a color, then the next two are X/Y coords of the shape, etc.

That'd probably be nicer than recompiling php, but not much more exciting.
