FORMULA: x(x - 1)

8(8 - 1) = 8 * 7 = 56
7(7 - 1) = 7 * 6 = 42
6(6 - 1) = 6 * 5 = 30
5(5 - 1) = 5 * 4 = 20

3(3 - 1) = 3 * 2 = 6

Do the lot of you actually use formulas when you solve stuff like this? I just look for patterns. Like,

Where a - b = c, a = current answer, b = next answer, c = difference
So, for every equation c goes down by 2

Each row is the next row's number times the original. So, 8 (top row) * 7 (next row) = answer.
but then it broke when they skipped to 3, so the pattern almost broke.
