Not to be rude my friend, buddy, breadslice, homeslice, diddly dawg, but maybe being off topic for too long could result in a warning, and not a ban.

We only ever warn people. Each warning type has a different points value. When you get a warning, those points are added to your total. If your new total is greater than the amount needed for a ban, you get a ban. Ban length gets pushed up a notch every 3 or so points, but warnings expire over time. More severe warnings expire slower and have lots of points, and less severe stuff like being off-topic has few points. It's hard to get a ban longer than a week unless you've earned a big warning or two.
