Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Give owners the ability to lock their own topics

To cut down on the people asking us to lock their topics.

Yeah but I'm not just going to run around and add random features you guys might not care about or might hate without you at least getting a chance to voice your opinion first. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

Re: Give owners the ability to lock their own topics

I say you should allow them to lock their own topics but don't allow them to unlock it. Mods still have the ability to unlock it tho ofc

As long as they justify why they're locking it.

This is a false statement.

Then the mods would have to be like "ok thats a good reason" and it would be easier to just have mods lock it.

A good reason isn't really required, but who partaked in the discussion would like to know why the discussion is being closed.

Yeah. the <Lock Post> could have a textarea for the reason.
not sure where you would show said reason...

There used to be one, but it got merged with Forum Discussion and now it serves as both.

Re: Give owners the ability to lock their own topics

Tbh I don't think OP should have ability to lock topic (or that they should be considered the topic's "owner"). Forums are for open discussion, not really for discussion controlled by the person who puts forth a topic. Most of the valid reasons for an OP to close a topic are reasons that a mod should probably be closing it anyways.

They can always just delete it. If they want a topic locked for a stupid reason and we won't do it (never happened before in the past but eh (EDIT: actually I think that happened once. I think they threatened to delete it if we didn't lock it)) they can always just hit the delete button which really grinds my gears which is why, if I'm going to be honest here, I'm a little reluctant to fix the bug I introduced that prevents users from deleting topics with posts in it specifically because you guys seem to like to delete topics at the drop of a hat like whyeven. I'd rather give you guys the ability to lock and take away your ability to delete (but on purpose this time, not as a side effect). Half my hope with giving you guys the ability to lock topics is that you'd turn to that instead of deleting them more often.

Re: Give owners the ability to lock their own topics

In phpBB it's actually default behavior to not allow users to delete topics I believe.

Do what everyone else does, report it and request that it be moved.
