Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Banning Inactive Users?

Well, I was going to put this in the game suggestions thread, but I feel it fits more in discussion because it is not a direct suggestion and is rather a topic I want to bring up: should inactive users who have not been playing for 5+ years be banned? I'd take it as a bit extreme, but it is a good point. There are many users who have not played the game in years and have nothing at all. They are practically just usernames that we cannot pick without a valid reason why except for the fact that it's been thought of before. I'm wondering if people think that these accounts should be banned or at least have their names reset. I think that the latter option is potentially viable, but I want to hear people's opinions.

Re: Banning Inactive Users?

banning achieves nil.

Deleting old accounts achieves freed memory and names, I guess

of course, any useful (if that exists) amount of deleting will spawn a nonzero amount of people complaining about coming back to find nothing

I see your point. That is why I think only resetting the names would be a good option, but really even that has negative side effects.

Re: Banning Inactive Users?

Banning would be unnecessary, but I could see forcing name changes on accounts that have nothing on them, and that have been logged out for over a year.

Mandatory renaming isn't needed. Unused accounts should be able to keep their name. If somebody decides to use that name when registering or renaming after that year passes, they could choose to claim it. The unused account would get a warning email that their username may be claimed two weeks before the one-year danger point comes by. This would subtly encourage the user to return through email, but without any begging, bribery, or guilt tripping. While I imagine not that many would actually return from reading the email, at least trying to wouldn't hurt.

The only problem is that I'm not sure how the conversion process would work. How would the renames to the unused accounts be decided? Would they be given some temporary special ID (like OLD-01928374 for example) which they use, until they're forced to use a new name when they login? If it's done manually, how would it be decided? That could end up problematic. Simply deleting the user if it gets claimed might just be easier.

Would be abused. Picking username "mrshoe", "cyclone" or "benjaminsen" would make a User #1 in EE.

Re: Banning Inactive Users?

In Ee terms there is a line about old accounts. If they inactive for 6 months - Ee staff can do anything you want
So If you want to claim someone's name - sure, pm staff and they will clear this name
This is how I've got "gosha"

The terms and conditions are pretty much meaningless since it's lacking in many areas and can be changed in any way at any time without notification. Maybe that's for another topic.

What about if it is a famous/popular EE player? Such as MFL or MIHB? Would they get special treatment?

Exploit = making 80 accounts, buying at least 1 world, and maybe a crew, add at least one other account as friend. don't play anything, just buy stuff and then once done, don't use them ever again

nothing is stopping you from doing that now, I don't see your point.

That's what I am saying, you can do that now and then if they add just what he said you wont have any accounts deleted.

Re: Banning Inactive Users?

It seems unlikely at this point that EE will run out of database space and have to delete old accounts. That's the only reason I see for deleting them.

The usernames inactive players have picked should be theirs to keep forever. Imagine someone confiscating your bike because you haven't ridden it in years.

One bot to rule them all, one bot to find them. One bot to bring them all... and with this cliché blind them.
