Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

learn what a year is. it's when the earth has completed an orbit around the sun. not next tuesday.

Re: happy new

heres the situation i came up with and i see no issues with it:

everyone recognizes the actual new year

and a calendar year(same as now) is established for the purpose of people being able to celebrate it at reasonable times as opposed to staying up for who knows how long(idk how long) just to celebrate new years

also people can celebrate it whenever they want to

so they could celebrate it during the actual new year time that everyone recognizes as actually being the actual new years time

But a year has passed for them.

In our calendar we've decided one revolution of the earth is one year. In other calendars, a year is based on other astronomical happenings.

if a person celebrated new years a month from now you'd think they're an idiot and rightfully so, I feel the same way in the cases of people celebrating it now

Re: happy new

So let me ask again: Why is your timezone's "new year" any more legitimate than all the other equally valid timezones?

Right, because atilla is the greatest, and anyone who thinks differently from him is a retarded idiot, and should be tarred and feathered and mocked.

EDIT

Atilla isn't even in UTC

Re: happy new

celebrating it in UTC time avoids retards celebrating it hours in advance and hours past, it's just as invalid as people celebrating it on their own time zones however it diminishes the effect of people going LOL NEW YEARS and 2 hours later LOL NEW YEARS in bulgaria

i still see no problem with this when it's a perfectly legitimate consequence of timezones. are you upset that twitter celebrations aren't perfectly synced up?

365 days from next tuesday is still a year. Just because it isn't on January 1st doesn't mean it's not a full year.

yes, they're silly for celebrating a year passing when it hasn't

if someone said HAPPY NEW YEARS 4 months from now you'd think they're being stupid

it depends when the orbit is defined as to start. calendars do not account for that

yes, they're silly for celebrating a year passing when it hasn't

to be fair in my understanding all many people know about is the calendar year
i dont see whats silly about people who only know of the calendar year who recognize it as the actual new year celebrating it as the new year

ppl are busy and have stuff to do
if they never learned difference between calendar year and actual year
and they dont feel the need to look up and confirm every single little detail about everything even the things that seem like universal basic things or whatnot, that will have absolutely no foreseeable impact on their lives whether or not they know the truth

i dont think they're stupid

and if they do know the difference i dont see them as stupid for wanting to celebrate it at a reasonable time if they have stuff to do and also want to enjoy life

Re: happy new

a year is defined as "the time taken by a planet to make one revolution around the sun." if the earth hasn't done that then you're wrong by saying it's 2017 when it's actually not

Re: happy new

im not saying thats how it is

and im not saying people arent wrong when they say a new year isnt what it is

im saying i dont think they're stupid

and as ive said above if people recognize the difference between actual new year and the time that they choose to celebrate it for the purpose of convenience (eg therefore they are not wrong because they are saying that the actual new year is the actual new year, they're just celebrating the concept of new year at a reasonable time)

so therefore they're not wrong and the acceptance of what is right is not inconveniencing them

i see absolutely nothing wrong with that scenario
