Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Definitely try out the free trial of FL if you're not sure about buying it! You can try it for as long as you like as far as I know.

FL is good for electronic music, it comes with really nice instruments and samples for that style.
I don't own FL myself, but I think the producer edition (about $200) is really good value for the money. The cheapest fruity edition might be a bit too limiting, since it's missing quite a lot of important stuff (imo).

#2 Re: Game Suggestions » Bouncy Goo action tool » 2021-09-02 18:39:28

I think stuff like this would fit the new EE very well, whatever it's going to be like. I'm not sure why exactly, but this (also the bubble) feels more immersive than the action blocks that EE had. Bubbles and goo blocks feel like they could actually be a part of some environment, and they give interesting movement for the player too.

I genuinely feel like it would be really fun to play worlds with these sort of blocks, good ideas!

#3 Re: Game Discussion » I'm curious of EE Art » 2021-08-02 19:22:45

When it comes to minimap art, I think the shape and placement of your minigames plays a really big role. Many EE worlds I liked (and all the pictures you sent) had kind of a "cave path" of minigames. Just having a path with interesting shapes can mean a lot.

I was always really interested in how people built their worlds. I asked many builders about it, but I don't really remember much of their answers anymore...
No one probably fully knew how they did what they did. Maybe they just had learned it by experimenting and having fun.

Something I liked to do a lot was sketching things on paper. It was a super fun way to plan worlds for me. Would look similar to this:

I think that's megalamb's "A Musical Interlude".
Not sure where you could download it though, maybe one of the archives people posted.

Heard him say that today.
I tried downloading my worlds, and the note blocks weren't really working.
Unless we're missing something...

I think it's there to make this sort of movement possible:

#7 Re: World Creation » Experiment Folder (WIP) » 2020-08-27 11:05:39

I like worlds like these that are like a collection of ideas.
The coin door one kinda breaks if you play the mario first, but idk if there's any way to fix that.

#8 Re: Creative » EE Comic #5 » 2020-08-12 17:23:04

I really like these comics!
They keep getting better and better too, keep it up!

#9 Re: Game Discussion » How attached are you to EE? » 2020-05-17 01:25:55

I would play another game with a similar concept if it had many players. Games like mario maker or minecraft are cool but they're definitely missing something that EE has. There just aren't other games like EE, which is kinda sad because the concept is really great!

An official successor would have been fun because it would have been a new place for all the EE players, but I honestly think it's a bit too late for that now. There aren't many players left here...

I don't care that much about having a successor because pretty much all of my friends quit EE anyway.
But just imagining the idea of having a proper 2D sandbox game with similar features as EE gets me excited. I'd even be willing to help working on something like that if it was a thing made by the community. Though I have no idea if the community wants/can create something like that. Atilla keeps saying that a charity project like this is doomed to fail, and I think he has a point.

Oh and just to clarify, a completely new game unrelated to the EE brand is a better idea imo. EE has a lot of problems, and it's just extra work trying to get rid of those while trying to be a sequel. EEU has progressed really slowly, and I personally don't like where it's heading, even if it was heading there faster. That's just purely my personal opinion though.

#10 Re: Game Discussion » How has Everybody Edits impacted your life? » 2020-05-12 22:14:37

I got all my online friends from EE, and there has been many over the years.

But it also taught me a lot of things about creating. I mean a lot of things.
- I learned general things like how to plan and finish projects, how to deal with feedback, and some basic working/creativity "tricks" as well.
- I got really into transcribing songs by ear because of the music world community of EE, and it's something that has helped me a ton with playing and composing music irl.
- Working with art taught quite a lot of visual things, like dealing with colors. Creating forum signatures got me into image editing.

Bots even got me into programming, which I was never too interested in before.

To me EE has always been a place to create and talk with friends. I don't really even like playing worlds.
Imo it was a really unique way to meet and interact with other people.

#11 Re: Worlds » Lament musics » 2020-04-26 15:06:07

Great world!

Taishou a is such a cool song, I didn't expect anyone to make it on EE. Loved it!

#12 Re: Game Business » ByteArray's weekly development vlogs! » 2020-03-31 11:08:15

I think the glass blocks are a great idea! I'd use them as "custom color blocks", since you can put any bg behind them.
I'd maybe like them more if they looked a bit smoother together. Right now the 'shine' and the edges of the glass are really clear compared to the basic blocks, though that's probably to make it look more glassy.

The effects and secret blocks also look awesome!

It's not like anyone plays EE anymore but I made this world a while ago so here you go. Its more like a collection of different art styles than a single world but yeah

#14 Re: Creative » My games (Melody Shuffle released!) » 2020-03-09 16:05:54

I love the feel of this. The sounds and visuals and controls all go so well together. I liked your earlier game also, but this one is really awesome!

The only thing I dislike a bit is the main melody sound/instrument. It's nothing major, but I'd just change it a bit for my taste ( less / different kind of reverb, maybe make them a bit more silent compared to bgm or adjust the color so that its less "sine sounding" )

I absolutely LOVE the vibrato effect thing when you mess up!

EDIT: Oh it also might be cool if it pressed the stop button automatically when you fail? My first intention is to drag the elements right after I fail, then I realised I need to press the stop button

#15 Re: Game Discussion » Do you honestly think EEU is going to be successful? » 2020-02-04 21:58:15

I hope it'll be succesfull, but so far I don't really like the feel of it.

There are a lot of things in it that I don't like. There's something about the movement that gives me a headache. Some of the graphics look a bit cheap. There's not much to do with the current features. So far its just a worse version of EE I guess? Maybe I'm comparing it too much to EE right now, but whenever I play EEU, it leaves me with a bad taste.

EEU should be a better version of EE. Like if I'm completely honest, EE looks bad and the gameplay is usually not very interesting to me. The core idea of EE is amazing, but if you play it as a platformer game it's pretty bad. I hope EEU would be better, but it seems to be heading to the direction where EE is.

So yeah, it might as well be succesful.

#16 Re: Game Discussion » what is the secret about makign a good game (inside ee(u)) » 2020-01-16 18:30:07

I don't think making a good world with switch systems is much different from making a good world without any systems. I'm not quite sure what you mean by features though.

There probably isn't a secret for making good worlds...
I guess it really depends on what you like. Try to imitate things you like. You won't be able to create a good world without having some sort of idea of what a good world is like.

#17 Re: Game Discussion » What are the highlights of your times playing EE? » 2020-01-08 23:33:21

- I joined like 2011
- My dad didn't want to buy me chat at first but in the end he did. One of the first things I remember on EE is when I asked someone what a "boss" is. Bosses were fun
- Then I met this player who taught me how to build hook jumps and stuff. I started making some worlds at that point
- Then friend list got added and it was awesome
- I started making music worlds and met quite a lot of music makers. I still can't believe how many songs I've actually made on EE
- Yo! Scroll was AWESOME
- Hanging out in Nothing was AWESOME
- I'm not sure if I ever really like playing EE that much, but it definitely became just a place for chatting and building for me. I think EE is kinda special with the way it combines real time creating, interacting and chatting.
- I tried out some contests
- I was forced to get into mining, so I did that a bit in Fastmaplers bot. I used to think minig was pretty boring, but hey, it still kinda is!

It's not the campaign rewards, it's the friends we made along the way!

#18 Re: Off Topic Discussion » Doki Doki Literature Club (DDLC) » 2019-11-18 18:19:45

I didn't know it was free. I haven't played it but I've seen videos of it. Some parts of the ost are really great, and the game itself has some fun ideas.

Spoilers maybe?

#19 Re: Off Topic Discussion » sea shanties » 2019-10-21 08:40:16

People often like english and irish folk music a lot. I don't know many sea shanties, but I really enjoy Irish folk songs.

I think sea shanties are heard a lot in soundtracks, and I just love the idea that games or movies can help you get into more traditional music styles.

#20 Re: Creative » A thorough examination of my terrible level design. » 2019-08-14 09:55:42

I also used to play that game as a kid! Fun times
I don't think I ever made full levels though, just messed around with it

Marios secret hideout looks cool, I like the glitchy style

Auto-Tiling - This won't apply to every block, but will hopefully apply to a few. For example, a brick wall could look more like a single brick wall rather than lots of wall 'squares'.

I think editing features like these are pretty important. Especially auto-tiling, since areas filled with blocks tend to look kinda messy on EE.

#22 Re: Game Discussion » Describe yourself in EE » 2019-07-28 02:24:57

- Since 2011
- Used to make a lot of music worlds
- Won some contests
- I liked playing bot assisted worlds
- But I think I liked chatting/chilling more than actually playing
- Have also contributed to the legendary world "Nothing"
- aaaa I keep wanting to join the lobby just to close it but can't do that anymore

#23 Re: Game Discussion » Abandoned Projects » 2019-07-18 14:11:45

Two Worlds
Ski Centre

These are worlds I would have wanted to finish, but I'm a rather lazy person in the end. In addition to these I have a huge amount of world ideas which I never even bothered to start working on. Maybe in EEU I will.

I'm actually a bit surprised that I haven't seen many top down worlds after the no-gravity effect was added.  I'd imagine them being really fun, and the art style looks really nice on EE as well. I guess it's just because people don't really make worlds anymore.

#24 Re: Debates » Can robots think like humans if developed properly? » 2019-07-16 11:38:51

I definitely think robots can be developed to be so similar to humans that we won't be able to see the difference anymore. However, this is not necessarily what we are going for, and actually it doesn't fully even answer the question in the title.

"Can robots think like humans" and "Can robots seem to think like humans" are very two different things imo. If robots really were to think like humans, they should feel similar things as we do. They should definitely get all the same human rights as well, since at that point they basically are humans.
If robots will only seem to be like humans, it gets a bit more difficult. They might not actually feel anything, but it definitely looks like they feel everything the same way as us. So in that case I think we would end up giving the human rights anyway, because the illusion is just so strong.

OK, that is if we were to create perfectly human-like robots. I don't think we will. We have a lot of humans on this planet, like a LOT. We have easier ways to make humans than building robots. The whole point of robots is that they have some sort of features that we do not. Some of these features could be:

- Robots could be smarter, stronger, faster
- Robots could work for us without ever getting tired or feeling bad
- Robots could only be programmed to have have "good" personalities (Which is definitely not as black and white as I'm making it sound here)

The last feature is the most interesting one. I kinda feel like that there are two sides to this AI thing. Firstly, we are trying to get new tools to make our lives easier. Secondly, we are trying to build new friends for ourselves. It would seem logical to make robots as smart and perfect as possible, but that is actually very inhuman and it would not make a good friend. It would also seem logical to make such robot friends, that they are always loyal to us and never get mad at us. I think this wouldn't work well either though. If someone is always acting nice to you the same way, doesn't it kinda feel like it doesn't have any personality?

This could be the biggest problem with these "friend robots". We don't really know what we want them to be. We don't really know how imperfect they should be. I atleast don't know, maybe someone else does.

#25 Re: Game Discussion » your thoughts on history of ee » 2019-07-14 17:57:31

I think it was a cool idea, and the worlds I've played so far were pretty nice too. I'm currently at Aquatic Sanctuary, I think there's something wrong with this underwater mini:

QNGaZY7.png

It feels like the curse times change somehow. I tried to beat it so many times and it literally felt impossible, but when I decided to try it once again now I was able to do it without too much trouble.

Kira is right that this campaign kinda feels more like random worlds from every year rather than the best worlds. The lobby world is beautiful though.

EDIT:

Now I'm at the last world. This mini is a mood killer:

0XbmrGo.png

It's way too hard in comparison to the rest of the world (and the difficulty "hard"). I feel like it's not just hard, but rather inconsistent, so it's very random if you get the movements right or not.
Well lets see if I can win this...

EDIT 2:

OK I did it, but it wasn't enjoyable at all. I really liked the rest of the world though.

My thoughts on this campaign overall: EE needs more easy worlds.
